[NPL] SafeMail for Mac OS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HIGHWARE SHIPS SAFEMAIL FOR THE MACINTOSH A SECURE WAY TO PROTECT
AND SIGN E-MAILS AND FILES

Brussels, July 22, 1999. - Highware announces SafeMail, its new
security software, compatible with the OpenPGP standard, that allows
Macintosh users to communicate securely over the internet.

SafeMail is a high security cryptographic software with an
easy-to-use interface, based on a technology known as Public Key
Encryption. SafeMail allows you to communicate and exchange
information securely with other people. The information (mail, files,
etc.) can be sent over the Internet or through any kind of electronic
channel or media. SafeMail is compatible with OpenPGP, a standard in
public-key encryption software. This means that files encrypted or
signed with SafeMail can be opened by the receiver whether he uses
PGP or SafeMail. Alternatively, you can also verify signatures or
decrypt data encrypted with PGP under any operating system be it Mac
OS, Windows or UNIX.

"Thanks to SafeMail, it is now possible for virtually all Macintosh
users to send and receive mail in a secure way" says Olivier Mrenne,
Highware's Managing Director. "SafeMail is a convenient and practical
utility for all Mac users to protect and authenticate their mail with
strong encryption."

SafeMail features are available in almost all applications. In
addition, a plug-in has been developped specially for Eudora users.

The two main features are:

DIGITAL SIGNATURE OR AUTHENTICATION
By "digitally" signing a message or file, the recipient will have the
guarantee that the message or file is coming from the real sender and
that nobody altered the message or file during its transfer.

STRONG ENCRYPTION
A message or file is encrypted using a Public Key. When using public
key cryptography, you don't need to transmit a password to the
recipient of the message for him/her to be able to decipher and read
it. Instead, everyone has two related keys: A public key and a
private key. Data encrypted using a public key can only be decrypted
using the related private key. This makes it a very safe way to
transfer information through non-secure channels. Public keys can be
freely distributed and are available on many public key servers on
the Internet such as the Keyserver network at
http://www.keyserver.net.

SafeMail comes in two versions: SafeMail and SafeMail Pro. SafeMail
is distributed as a shareware and is available only via electronic
channels. SafeMail Pro, a more featured version is aimed at more
advanced users and corporations. It will be released in August 99.

SafeMail works on any Macintosh computer with system 7.6 or higher.

Founded in 1983, Highware is a privately held corporation located in
Brussels, Belgium. Highware has been developing security products for
the Macintosh platform since 1987 when it first released FileGuard.
To date, with the newly released 3.2 version, FileGuard has become a
standard for Macintosh OS security software. Other software developed
by Highware are DiskGuard, PopupFolder, FileCrypt, Personal Backup,
MultiHome and OpenKeyServer.

To obtain SafeMail, check at http://www.highware.com/main-sm.html or
download it at http://www.highware.net/pub/SafeMail/. SafeMail is
distributed as shareware and is priced at $39. It can be ordered
directly on the Highware web site.
