[NPL] RSA Introduces Keon Software

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Security Dynamics and RSA Unveil
Enterprise Application Security Strategy

Keon Product Family Signals Entry Into Enterprise and OEM PKI Marketplace

RSA DATA SECURITY CONFERENCE, San Jose, CA, January 18, 1999 --
Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SDTI) and its wholly
owned subsidiary, RSA Data Security, Inc., embarked upon a new
security initiative today, introducing Keon software, a family of
enterprise public key infrastructure (PKI) products for enterprise
customers, developers and OEMs. Combining the enterprise systems
expertise, support and worldwide presence of Security Dynamics with
the industry-leading public-key encryption technology and custom
solution knowledge from RSA, Keon products are designed to work
together to create an integrated, standards-based solution for
deploying secure, mission-critical applications and conducting
electronic commerce.

Keon products are designed to address many of today's security needs
-- from a certificate server developers can build into their
applications, to an enterprise PKI supplying digital certificates for
Web commerce applications, to a complete turn-key network and
application security system offering PKI-based security for existing
client-server applications. With Keon software, RSA and SDI now offer
a single source of security expertise, from core cryptography and
integrated security-protocol toolkits, to PKI security components, to
complete security solutions and consulting services. The Keon family
of security products represents the most significant collective
effort ever undertaken by these two security leaders.

"The Keon product family represents the culmination of the vision we
laid out last year to deliver world-class enterprise security
products based on industry standards and an interoperable
architecture," said Chuck Stuckey, president, chairman and CEO of
Security Dynamics. "With the introduction today of Keon, SDI and RSA
have become one company, delivering Keon products to both enterprise
users and OEMs. Keon products demonstrate the true synergy resulting
from the merging of the two companies."

As a modular product line, Keon security software is designed to meet
the needs of organizations looking for complete solutions as well as
corporate and OEM developers who want to build customized solutions.
For enterprise customers, Keon software is designed to provide a
turnkey solution that protects extranet and intranet applications,
issues digital certificates for electronic commerce applications and
simplifies both user sign-on and system security administration. For
corporate and OEM developers, Keon products are designed to provide
the PKI components and RSA BSAFE encryption tools for building native
PKI-enabled applications.

The Keon line includes the following products:

Keon Security Server is designed to provide centralized security
administration, user management and access control. Keon Security
Server is intended to facilitate single sign-on across supported
applications, provide system robustness and scale to very large
deployments.

Keon Desktop is designed to provide file encryption, manage single
sign-on and user credentials at the desktop, and deliver services for
securing email, Web browsers and access to protected applications.

Keon Agents are installed on protected application servers, and are
designed to create the authenticated, secure connection from the
desktop to the application server.

Keon Agent SDK is intended to give developers the ability to build
Agents for in-house applications.

Keon Certificate Server is intended to provide a powerful and
flexible system for issuing and managing digital certificates. "Until
today, people have concentrated exclusively on the technical
underpinnings of PKI, when its the application security that is
equally, if not more, important," said Scott Schnell, senior vice
president of marketing at RSA and Security Dynamics. "Now, Security
Dynamics and RSA have joined forces to deliver a PKI with a purpose,
a true solution for achieving real application and eCommerce security
benefits."

A Turnkey Solution for Application Security

Keon software is designed to provide a scalable, turnkey solution for
businesses that want to secure access to mission-critical
applications. Keon products employ standard X.509 digital
certificates and other public-key based technologies and are designed
to deliver application security for enterprises that need to
establish vital trust relationships, and give enterprises and others
the tools they need to create their own standards-based, native PKI
applications. In addition, the system is designed to make a
certificate usable with multiple applications, eliminating the need
to issue a different certificate for each application.

Keon products use RSA encryption the worlds de facto standard for
protecting the confidentiality and integrity of application data
and are designed to create an end-to-end encrypted session (an
application VPN) between a users desktop and the application
resource. Keon software is intended to support popular ERP, database
and other client-server application environments including
PeopleSoft, Oracle, Sybase and Informix through its innovative
"Agent" technology. These Keon Agents are designed to allow
non-public key applications to reap the benefits of encryption,
digital signatures and PKI without the need to modify application
code. A Keon software development kit is available to help developers
create agents for customized in-house or third-party applications.

Customized Applications and Solutions

With Keon technology, developers have the tools, software components
and OEM security servers to deliver public-key based products to
their customers or for in-house use. Keons support of standards is
intended to allow developers to implement the certificate authority
or directory service of choice and ensure each will work within the
Keon technology implementation. RSAs BSAFE security components allow
developers to easily integrate their applications with Keon
technology.

Strong User Authentication for PKI

Keon is designed to support the use of Security Dynamics SecurID
authentication products the leading brand name for strong user
authentication working in conjunction with digital certificates to
protect private keys and other credentials stored on the desktop, and
to ensure that organizations know who is accessing their networks and
applications. Today, Security Dynamics offers a SecurID smart card
for use with Keon security applications, and will add fully
integrated support for its traditional SecurID hardware and software
tokens in future Keon releases.

Professional Services Streamline Implementation

Security Dynamics and RSA offer a range of services to help ensure
the success of every Keon software deployment. Security Dynamics
Professional Services organization can provide the expertise and
resources needed to successfully deploy Keon technology, from initial
planning and project management through on-going training and
support. Security Dynamics' extensive experience in planning and
deploying secure network systems can be leveraged to ensure the
smooth implementation of any Keon software installation. And because
every organizations needs are different, multiple services and
package plans are available to provide the support and resources
needed.

Phased Product Delivery

Throughout 1999, Security Dynamics and RSA intend to bring the Keon
product family to market through a phased rollout. Keon 4.4 software,
based on Security Dynamics BoKS application security product, is
available today to provide organizations with a range of services for
securing enterprise applications such as PeopleSoft and Oracle.
Today, Keon 4.4 software products are already at work in Global 1000
organizations, protecting ERP and mission-critical applications from
Oracle, Sybase, Informix as well as additional electronic business
applications deployed over enterprise intranets and extranets. Keon
4.5 software, due to be released in the second quarter, is intended
to boost overall scalability and introduce the new PKI-ready Keon
Desktop software and Keon Agent software components. Keon 5.0
software, now in beta testing and scheduled for worldwide
availability during the second half of the year, features the new
certificate server and is designed to achieve complete PKI system
interoperability, extending Keon's technology protection to any
PKI-enabled application, including e-mail, virtual private networks
and Internet-based eCommerce applications. Security Dynamics and RSA
are providing a migration strategy within the Keon product family
that is intended to enable customers to begin implementing solutions
or piloting projects now with the assurance they can upgrade as new
products arrive without impacting their installed application
security solutions.
