[NPL] Proteron ships MPegger
December 16, 1999 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Proteron ships MPegger after three years of development.
Omaha, Nebraska USA - Proteron today announced immediate availability of
MPegger, a pioneer in the Mac MP3 encoding market which was previously
unavailable due to international patent restrictions on MPEG layer III
(MP3) encoding. MPegger cleanly handles encoding of AIFF, Sound Designer II
and PCM audio files into both the MP3 and MP2 format, making it a strong
choice for high-end digital recording artists and producers.
The MP3 encoder formerly known as "MPecker" was in development and testing
for three years by its creator Rafael Luebbert. Proteron acquired MPegger
in November of 1999 and made possible the release of this powerful digital
audio tool. Veterans will be pleased to note many and various improvements
to MPegger since the last public beta release.
Highlights of the MPegger feature set include:
+ Fast, high-quality encoding into both MP3 and MP2
+ Extensive control of file naming
+ Audio resampling and normalization
+ Minimal system requirements (PowerPC with Apple's System 7 or later)
MPegger can be downloaded and purchased from www.proteron.com/mpegger. It
is priced at just $24.95 and immediate electronic delivery is available 24
hours a day.
The Future of MPegger
Proteron will use MPegger to maintain its lead as the premiere Mac
developer of MP3 encoding software. Sam Caughron, President of Proteron has
already forecast the company's plans to merge MPegger and N2MP3, the
company's primary encoder, into an uber-encoder sporting the best features
from both products. This project, codenamed "Biterolf" is already in
progress, although the exact feature set, interface, pricing and upgrade
strategy are all undetermined at this time.
