[NPL] PANTONE Matching System for Web

Cross-Platform Internet Design and Color Management Tool

ColorWeb Pro Brings PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM Colors to the Web

Seybold Seminars (Booth 933), San Francisco, Calif. - August 31, 1998 -
Pantone, Inc. today began shipping a cross-platform version of PANTONE
ColorWeb Pro for Macintosh, Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0. ColorWeb
Pro allows designers to incorporate PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM Colors and the
216 "Internet-safe" colors into popular Web authoring applications,
presentation programs or any application which uses color optimized for the
Internet. ColorWeb Pro is a set of tools for designing and accurately
managing solid colors for publishing and viewing Web pages over the
Internet. Designers and Web developers now have a simple and convenient
way to specify color for Web pages whether they work on PCs or Macs.

In addition to Web page design applications, ColorWeb Pro can be used to
add PANTONE Colors for corporate identity and logos to any Windows software
applications for designing Web pages or programs that take advantage of
Apple's Extensible Color Picker feature, including presentation software
and HTML editors. Designers now have a simple way to specify color for Web
pages and business presentations, ensuring their work is viewed as
originally intended, on both Windows and Macintosh systems.

The new cross-platform version of ColorWeb Pro brings the same level of
color management to the Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT platforms
that we provide for the Macintosh," said Richard Herbert, senior vice
president of Pantone. "Designers now have the tools for accurately
managing colors for publishing and viewing over the Internet, regardless of
the platform they are working on, as well as incorporating the PANTONE
Colors used in their logos and corporate identity programs, to fully
leverage their investment.

PANTONE ColorWeb Pro
ColorWeb Pro contains two digital color pickers: the PANTONE Internet
Color System (PICS) with the 216 "Internet-safe" colors that will not
dither on 8-bit (256) color monitors and the PANTONE Digital Color System
with 1,012 PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM Colors the international standard for
color communication. Users can use the PICS palette and the PANTONE
Digital Color System together by selecting one of the 1,012 PANTONE
MATCHING SYSTEM Colors and then clicking on the PICS palette to identify
the closest "Internet-safe" color.

Printed fan guides for both systems display a printed representation of the
color, including the values needed to reproduce the colors. The PANTONE
Internet Color System Guide includes the 216 "Internet-safe" colors along
with the RGB, CMYK, HTML and Hexachrome color values. The PANTONE
Digital Color System Guide includes RGB and HTML values of the PANTONE
MATCHING SYSTEM Colors.

The PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM Colors used in the PANTONE Digital Color System
Guide are based on the sRGB standard developed by Hewlett-Packard and
Microsoft. sRGB is the default method of color specification based on the
standard RGB color space. sRGB complements current color management
strategies by establishing and using a device-dependent color definition
that can be assumed by the operating system or peripheral devices such as
color printers. Microsoft has implement sRGB in the Windows operating
system and sRGB is the default color space for the Web adopted by the W3C.

Pricing, Availability and System Requirements PANTONE ColorWeb Pro is
currently available in the cross-platform version on a single, hybrid
CD-ROM for a suggested retail price of $69.95. The Macintosh system
version runs on System 7.x or higher with 4 MB RAM, 256-color display and 1
MB of disk space. The Windows 95/98 and Windows NT versions requires
Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0, with 4 MB RAM, 256-color display, CD-ROM
and 1 MB of disk space.

Pantone, Inc., the leading global source of products for the selection,
control and accurate communication of color, is the developer of the
PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM, the PANTONE Process Color System and the PANTONE
Hexachrome six-color ultra high quality process system. They provide
three distinct global languages for color specification and reproduction.
PANTONE Color Systems have been widely accepted and utilized by designers
and printers since 1963 and are currently in use in almost 100 countries
throughout the world. Pantone, Inc. is an ISO 9002 registered company.
