Opera Software Releases Opera 3.5

Oslo, Norway, September 19, 1998 -- Opera Software A/S, based in Oslo,
Norway, announced today the release of the Opera 3.5 beta Internet web
browser. This update to the award winning web browser includes many new
features and enhancements while maintaining its small size, speed and
flexibility. The final version to be released in the next few days. Enjoy
and let us have your comments. This version promises to be the fastes
Opera, the fastest browser ever

New Functionality and Features in Opera 3.5

CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)

Opera now offers a high quality Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
implementation. This means that Opera can read web pages developed using
the CSS standard. CSS technology makes it easier for web designers to
create consistent pages and sites. Opera Software strives to adhere to the
W3C standards for CSS that have been established by the World Wide Web
Consortium.

Security and Encryption

Opera 3.5 offers the highest level of security, 128-bit encryption, for
users anywhere in the world. The American competitors are required to
export a lower security version of their products, providing only 40-bit
encryption to their users who reside outside of the USA. This makes Opera
the natural choice when users want to transfer sensitive information over
the Internet for secure online ordering of goods and services or online
banking. Opera supports the latest SSL encryption protocols and is the only
web browser to support TLS encryption. These levels of security are
considered impossible to hack.

Small, Fast and Smooth

Opera is known for its speed and version 3.5 is even faster and smoother
running that its predecessors. No other browser is faster than Opera when
it comes to rendering web pages. Opera is also a small program (1.15 MB)
which means you can download it in 3 - 5 minutes. Other browsers take more
than 10 times longer to download. Opera requires minimal hard drive space
and it doesnt interfere with your operating system.

File Upload

Opera is now able to upload information to an Internet server. File Upload
is a feature in demand for applications like Web-based e-mail. The number
of web-based e-mail users is growing because it makes e-mail available from
all Internet connected devices, its free and you do not need a separate
e-mail program. Visit http://www.operamail.com

Java Plugin

Opera 3.5 now supports Java applets via the Java Plugin from Sun. The Java
Plugin itself is available in a 32-bit version and works in the 32-bit
version of Opera 3.5. Sun will be officially supporting Opera in their next
version of the plugin. The Java Plugin is available on Suns web site:
http://www.java.sun.com/products/plugin/

Make Your Own Buttons

Opera 3.5 allows you to make your own buttons for the button bar. You can
replace the default buttons with your own pieces of art.

New Services from Opera Software

OperaMail

Opera is extending its services by offering free web-based e-mail. Get your
own OperaMail.com e-mail address and you use your account with the Opera
browser (or other modern web browsers). Your OperaMail account makes your
e-mail accessible from all Internet connected devices without the need for
a separate e-mail program. Using Opera 3.5s new File Upload feature, you
can also send file attachments. Visit http://www.operamail.com

PeopleLink

PeopleLink is a program/service that can be used to send instant messages
to friends and family who are connected to the Internet at the same time.
By creating a contact list, you can see when people on your list are
actually online and you can send them messages which they will receive
immediately. You can also invite several users into a conference. This
form of Instant Messaging has become very popular because it provides safe,
real-time communications. Opera will offer a special Opera version of the
PeopleLink client software for free on our web site in cooperation with
PeopleLink, Inc. Visit http://www.peoplelink.com/comnet/operasoftware/
