NETPROFESSIONAL LAUNCHES NETPROLIVE
-- Professional Journal for Network Administrators and Webmasters
Provides News and Announcements to the Community FREE

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- June 16, 1998 -- Xplain Corporation, publishers
of NetProfessional(tm) magazine, announces the launch of NetProLive(tm).
NetProLive is a website and an email list aimed squarely at the Internet
community. Hosted by NetProfessional magazine, NetProLive is the source of
news, information, updates and special offers specifically for the web
developer and network administrator.

NetProLive -- The Mailing List

The charter of the NetProLive list is to make Net managers, webmasters, and
site producers more aware of available resources, and to provide an
efficient channel through which Internet vendors can spread the word about
new product releases. To further this charter, the list is open to press,
developers, industry figures, and the general public. The magazine's
Editorial Staff uses the list as its primary source of leads and
information -- sharing what they find interesting, timely, and relevant for
their audience.

The list will be moderated by NetProfessional magazine staff and is a
natural extension of NetProfessional's website,
(http://www.netprolive.com). The goal of the moderators is to manage the
list traffic, so that subscribers aren't overwhelmed. In addition, a digest
version of the list is available.

"NetProLive is to NetProfessional what MacDev-1 is to MacTech Magazine."
said Neil Ticktin, Publisher of MacTech and NetProfessional. "For years,
we've been providing quality news to the Mac developer community -- now
it's time to do the same for the web developer and network administrator."

NetProLive is a news feed for several other news organizations -- including
a number of other industry web sites, EvangeList, Apple Developer
Connection News, PR Web, and CNN Custom News service. Unlike other news
services, readers get to see the announcement in the vendor's own words,
without interpretation.

To subscribe to NetProLive, use the form at
http://www.netprolive.com/NetProLive/ or send mail to
mailto:listserv@listmail.xplain.com with the SUBJECT line reading
"SUBSCRIBE NETPROLIVE" or "SUBSCRIBE DIGEST NETPROLIVE".

To submit a posting to NetProLive, mailto:press_releases@netprolive.com.
There are no fees to anyone for this service. Public Relations
professionals and vendors should ONLY send to this address as sending to
any other address is a waste of bandwidth, and will likely cause your
announcement to be missed. Embargoes are respected if clearly marked at the
top of the message. Significant upgrades and announcements are welcomed.
Management changes and competition-bashing discouraged.

NetProLive -- The Web Site

The NetProLive Website (http://www.netprolive.com), like the mailing list,
will feature content for web developers and network administrators.
Although selected material from NetProfessional magazine will appear on the
site, it won't be just a static set of archives, but rather a dynamic set
of pages.

"Although we now run extremely long and technical articles in
NetProfessional magazine, we can go even further with the NetProLive
Website, with related material, such as related resources and links, and
more important -- timely news," said Raines Cohen, NetProfessional Editor.

NetProLive also contains links to support resources such as mailing lists,
community resources like User Groups and Professional Associations for Web
developers and network administrators, and much more.

NetProfessional -- The Magazine

The NEW NetProfessional, due in print form at Macworld Expo/New York with
the July/August issue, will present high-level, professional, technical,
journal-style content. Every issue will feature how-to articles,
technically oriented product reviews, as well as the high quality editorial
content that MacTech has built its reputation upon. The magazine will
continue to have a Mac focus, yet will discuss cross-platform issues like
fitting into a multi-platform world and creating cross-platform solutions.

The new NetProfessional will be available at Macworld Expo/New York, July
'98. NetProfessional is available for only $19.95 for six issues for U.S.
subscribers -- a savings of 53% off the cover price! (US$44.95
International, US$25.95 Canadian) If you're not a current subscriber to
NetProfessional, sign up today. Just visit the NetProfessional web site at
(http://www.netprolive.com) and sign up RISK FREE for NetProfessional.
There's no risk to you, so act now!
