forumLynx and searchLynx updates set new standards for web software

HindSight Ltd. has raised the bar for web-based discussion software and for
online image catalogs with the release of forumLynx 2.0 and searchLynx 2.0.
Both programs boast a 400% increase in speed, an expanded vocabulary of
remote commands and several interface enhancements.

forumLynx, discussion forums for web sites forumLynx is designed to setup
and maintain one or several discussion forums to answer customer questions,
host topical dialogs or facilitate online conferences. forumLynx combines
exceptional response times with easy to follow message threads.

Password protected sysop commands provide the means to add, delete or
rename forums, edit or delete messages and to reassign messages from one
forum to another. The capability to create and update a "bad word" list
enables a censorship feature to prevent undesirable words from appearing in
forums when no one is watching.

For more information or a hands-on test of forumLynx, see
http://www.hindsightltd.com/forumLynx.htm

searchLynx, an image library for the web Businesses and individuals wanting
to make their image libraries available via the web will see searchLynx as
the perfect vehicle for the job due to its exceptional speed, affordability
and feature set. searchLynx is a web based image catalog that allows
researchers to conduct searches for desired imagery. The software takes
just seconds to seek images fitting the descriptions and generate HTML
pages of thumbnails to display the matches.

Researchers can selectively mark images for later review as they conduct
additional searches. The marked images can be retrieved at any time and the
overall selection edited. Once a final selection is made, a simple click of
a button sends an email query about the chosen images. The query itself is
handled by a file that links with HindSight's StockView software to
automatically process incoming image inquiries.

A reporting capability makes it easy to monitor searches and recognize
deficiencies in the library content.

A searchLynx demo site has been set up at
http://www.hindsightltd.com/searchLynx.htm for a hands-on evaluation of the
software's features and capabilities.

Both programs allow for a great deal of customization of looks and
behaviour. Using a sizable vocabulary of remote commands sent via any
browser, the pages can be designed to include and position a company name,
logo, email address and more. Remote commands also control the colors of
the page and links, background graphics and whether a number of features
are enabled or not.

It's not necessary to do everything remotely. A Preferences window allows
access to all the user options directly. Once set, the Preferences can
simply be saved when working right on the server, or they can be ftp'ed to
the server and followed by a remote import command.

forumLynx and searchLynx are built on the Panorama database making RAM and
disk space requirements minimal. They list for $295 per license, including
Panorama, and require a Macintosh server with WebSTAR. They utilize the
user's choice of the included AppleScript or Frontier cgi scripts. A
virtually unlimited number of forumLynx and searchLynx sites can run on a
single server, enhancing the hosting appeal to service providers. HindSight
has hosting options available for those who lack an appropriate internet
service provider.

HindSight Ltd. has been producing business and image management software
for the Macintosh since 1985. Other HindSight products include InView: a
complete business management and accounting package, StockView: stock image
management and Electric Slideshow: an image database for presentations.

(Technical note: Our server is a PowerComputing PowerCenter Pro 210 with a
604e processor. Running 2 searchLynx sites and 3 forumLynx sites it uses
less than 10 megabytes of RAM, more than half of which is being used by
Frontier. It's averaging 2 to 3 seconds to receive a hit, process it and
return a newly generated HTML page.) Jim, jim@hindsightltd.com
