MEDIA DESIGN IN*PROGRESS SHIPS FIRST XML EDITOR FOR MACINTOSH

SAN DIEGO (California), April 6, 1999: Media Design in*Progress ships
Emile Lite, the first XML editor for Macintosh. Emil Lite is the
free edition of the commercial Emile XML editor, which will be
released in the end of April 1999. Emile Lite is available from:

http://www.in-progress.com/emile

Emile Lite facilitates productive markup with XML, liberating the
author from detailed knowledge of the XML specification by providing
dialogs for custom tags and common markup constructs. The application
integrates a clone of the comprehensive Emacs text editor, with a
graphical user interface for Macintosh ease of use. Emile Lite
automatically adapts the user interface to the current document type
(DTD), building a customized authoring environment that is tailored
to specific needs.

"Emile is the kind of XML software that you can confidently recommend
to the average text editor user as short on learning curve and long
on productive value. Our pilot project for Electronic Theses and
Dissertations using XML at the University of Iowa could not have
gotten under way so soon without the ease of Emile. Even better, its
intuitive interface is consistent across the range of powerful
XML/HTML/CSS tools Media Design in*Progress has available" says Dr.
John Robert Gardner, Academic Technology, University of Iowa.

Extensible Markup Language (XML) is an open document standard for
structured content, created by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
for use on the World Wide Web, vendor-neutral data interchange,
media-independent publishing, collaborative authoring, and processing
of web documents by intelligent agents. XML allows authors to use
custom elements and other specialized markup constructs, making
content more flexible and reusable.

The W3C has announced that the next version of HTML will be based on
the Extensible Markup Language (XML). Emile Lite supports editing
with Extensible HTML. Internet Explorer 5.0 supports XML, and so will
the next version of Netscape Navigator. Emil Lite can export an XML
document as HTML, so web authors can take advantage of extensible
markup while keeping the pages accessible also for older web browsers.
