For Immediate Release

MACROMEDIA TO DELIVER MACINTOSH PLAYER
FOR AUTHORWARE 5 ATTAIN

Continues Commitment to Cross-Platform Delivery

Redwood Shores, Calif., October 15, 1998 - Following its announcement of
next generation learning products, the Interactive Learning Division of
Macromedia, Inc., (NASDAQ: MACR) today announced that it will offer an
Authorware 5 Attain Player for the Apple Macintosh. The Mac Player will be
available in two versions: as an Authorware Web Player for delivering
learning applications via the Web, and as a stand-alone runtime player for
delivery on LANs and CD-ROMs. Authorware Attain is the industry's leading
rich-media authoring tool for Web and online learning. "For years, our
customers have really valued Authorware Attain's delivery of cross-platform
applications," said Christian Vescia, Authorware's senior product manager.
"With the latest generation of the Mac player, our customers can develop
once and deliver anywhere - on Windows, Mac, the Web and CDs, taking
advantage of the great new features in Authorware 5 Attain." The Mac
Player extends key benefits of Authorware 5 Attain to the Macintosh
platform, including:

- Engaging Learning Content through support for Flash animations and
Quicktime 3.0

- Web-authoring and delivery through Knowledge Stream which provides
intelligent streaming of learning applications for a CD-ROM like experience
over low-bandwidth connections. It also provides Voxware support for
high-quality low-bandwidth voice-overs as well as new Web-savvy run-time
features such as calling a JavaScript URL or measuring available bandwidth.

- Enhanced productivity by leveraging one development effort for deployment
via Macintosh and Windows platforms, via the Web, LANs and CD-ROMs.

- Learning Management through Knowledge Track which automatically
integrates usage and results of Authorware-based learning content with an
open enterprise learning system for tracking and reporting.

A component of Macromedia's Attain Enterprise Learning System, Authorware 5
Attain content can be embedded in Web pages created with Dreamweaver
Attain, the visual HTML authoring tool for Web learning. In addition, the
content can be tracked with Macromedia's Pathware 3 - Attain Essentials an
open, scalable learning management system. The Authorware 5 Attain Mac
Player will be freely available to all Authorware 5 Attain customers. It
will ship during the first quarter of 1999.
