[NPL] Aestiva HTML/OS

Aestiva Press Release. April 5, 1999

For Immediate Release

Macintosh-based Web designers get advanced on-the-fly capabilities
with the release of Aestiva HTML/OS for the Mac.

Torrance, Calif. (April 5, 1999)-- Aestiva, LLC announced the
immediate availability of Aestiva HTML/OS for the Macintosh. Aestiva
HTML/OS is a powerful Web-based product for developing and hosting
advanced, dynamic Web sites. It eliminates the need for CGI
programming. The product is popular on UNIX and Windows platforms.
The Mac version targets Macintosh users wishing to deploy high-access
dynamic Web sites or develop dynamic sites on the Mac and deploy
elsewhere.

Macintosh designers are expected to welcome HTML/OS. The product can
be installed on in-house Macs or in virtual accounts at new Mac-based
hosting providers. In the past users used HTML/OS on Mac browsers
connected to non-Macintosh servers.

Like other users, Mac users of HTML/OS will enjoy the fact that
developing advanced features is a matter of placing HTML/OS tags in
HTML documents. The tags allow HTML documents to merge with other
information on the server "on-the-fly," i.e. in the instant the
documents are requested by users. HTML/OS is used for building
commerce sites, database-driven Web sites and Web-based applications.

The Mac is back

"Mac users can now deploy dynamic Web sites with UNIX-like
performance," says D.M. Silverberg, Aestiva's Director of Technology.
HTML/OS for Mac OS 7 - 8.5 works with WebTen, an enhanced Apache Web
server from Tenon (http://www.tenon.com). Aestiva has a second
version for the Mac OS X Server running Apple's bundled Apache or
WebTen. Both Mac OS and OS X Server versions deliver UNIX-like
performance. "We're excited, says D.M.Silverberg. "The ability to use
Macs as high-performance dynamic Web site platforms is an important
milestone for Apple. As far as high-access dynamic Web hosting is
concerned, the Mac is back."

King of On-the-fly

Aestiva HTML/OS already has Mac followers. Close to half of all
HTML/OS users have Macs (they use Mac browsers with HTML/OS installed
on non-Macintosh servers). Enthusiasts call HTML/OS "The King of
On-the-fly" because its tagging language performs high-speed
on-the-fly word-processing, spreadsheet, database and programming
operations. HTML/OS tags look a lot like BASIC programming
instructions. They're English-like and easy to learn. Designers with
limited or no prior programming skills become skilled dynamic
developers in a few days. Mac users have been big supporters of
Aestiva's "power with ease-of-use" philosophy.

Freeware Galore

Loads of freeware is available for the HTML/OS designer. Since
HTML/OS apps run the same on different platforms, all the clips,
applications and templates in Aestiva's freeware library are
immediately available to Mac users of HTML/OS. The library includes
hundreds of example dynamic pages including complete shopping carts,
Web-chat products, Web-based discussion forums and Web-based office
applications.

Aestiva HTML/OS is available for Mac OS 7 - 8.5, Mac OS X Server, Sun
(Sparc), Sun (Intel), SGI-IRIX, BSDI, FreeBSD, Linux (Intel), Linux
(Dec Alpha) and Windows 95/98/NT platforms. Aestiva HTML/OS retails
for $799.00 (US). Upgrades are $150.00(US).
