[NPL] Adobe Ships Illustrator 8.0

For Immediate Release

Adobe Ships Illustrator 8.0

San Jose, Calif., (September 28, 1998) (Nasdaq: ADBE) - Combining unique,
groundbreaking illustration tools with dramatically improved ease-of-use,
Adobe Systems Incorporated announced today the immediate availability in
the U.S. of Adobe Illustrator 8.0 software for the Windows 95/98,
Windows NT 4.0, and Power Macintosh platforms. Adobe Illustrator is the
industry standard for illustration software. The latest version redefines
computer drawing for print and the Web with new levels of innovation and
integration that will satisfy the creative needs of graphics professionals,
Web designers, and business users.

Illustrator 8.0 distinguishes itself from competitive illustration
applications with a compelling array of unique new features found only in
Illustrator 8.0 and other Adobe products. Creative tools like the Gradient
Mesh and new Brushes help users better express their ideas, by successfully
combining the control and precision of computer drawing with results closer
to those achieved using more traditional methods. The new Pencil tool makes
drawing and editing paths as intuitive as using pencil on paper. Actions
save significant amounts of time by automating commonly performed tasks,
and the ability to output layers to Photoshop software files further
strengthens the already unsurpassed integration of Illustrator 8.0 with
other Adobe professional graphics programs. The combination of these types
of new features balanced with more than 100 product enhancements will help
users learn faster, work more efficiently, and express their creativity in
ways never before possible using a computer drawing program. (Visit

information.)

Sandee Cohen, who has been teaching and training design on the computer for
the past seven years and who also writes for several desktop publishing
magazines, agrees. "It's incredible what this will do for artists and
illustrators," says Cohen. "Illustrator 8.0 is the biggest release I've
seen in Illustrator since Illustrator 3 to 5. With this release, Adobe
truly redefined vector drawing."

Pricing and Availability

In the United States and Canada, Illustrator 8.0 software is available from
authorized Adobe resellers and retail outlets for an estimated street price
of $375 (U.S.). Registered users of any version of Adobe Illustrator can
upgrade for $129 (U.S.). Additionally, in the U.S. and Canada, all
registered users of Photoshop and PageMaker and users of other illustration
software programs such as CorelDRAW, Macromedia Freehand, can purchase
Illustrator 8.0 for only $199 (U.S.) with proof of purchase. Customers in
the U.S. and Canada who purchased Illustrator 7.0 after July 23rd, are
eligible to receive the upgrade to Illustrator 8.0 for the cost of shipping
and handling and with proof of purchase. For information, customers can
call Adobe at (800) 685-3587.

French and German versions of Adobe Illustrator 8.0 are expected to ship
within 15 days of the initial release. A Japanese version is in development
and is expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 1998. Availability,
pricing, upgrade, and support policies for localized language versions will
