Adobe Acrobat 4.0 Software Makes Collaborating and Sharing Documents A Breeze

Adobe Acrobat 4.0 is Now Available and Adobe Delivers New Technology
to Make PDF Files
More Accessible

San Jose, Calif., (April 12, 1999) (Nasdaq: ADBE)-Adobe Systems
announced today the immediate availability of Adobe Acrobat 4.0
software for Windows and Macintosh. Introduced in February, Adobe
Acrobat 4.0 is simply one of the most reliable tools to help people
collaborate and share information across computers, corporate
Intranets and the Web.

Adobe Acrobat 4.0 delivers a rich set of annotation tools, support
for digital signatures, the ability to easily collect Web content
into the Portable Document Format (PDF) and re-use information within
PDF files. Additionally, in a world where computer viruses are
becoming pervasive, PDFwill not pass along viruses across computer
systems or the Internet.

The new features in Acrobat 4.0 will enhance the ability of Palo
Verde, the largest power-producing facility in the western
hemisphere, to manage documents related to its highly-regulated,
closely monitored operations.

"We maintain or create more than 1,800 procedures and 25,000
electronic work documents annually that outline critical plant
operations," says Warren Martin, technical consultant at Palo Verde,
Tonopah, Arizona. "Acrobat 4.0 will streamline this process
considerably by allowing employees to quickly review and edit these
work documents electronically. Our goal is to convert everything we
possibly can to PDF so that staff can access it at the desktop-saving
us time and ensuring continued safety."

PDF is quickly becoming the file format of choice for delivering
press ready files for print production. Acrobat 4.0 offers a variety
of new high-end publishing features that promise to greatly improve
today's prepress workflows and streamline the overall print process
to increase productivity. Acrobat 4.0 provides support for high-end
features such as ICC profiles, full support for Adobe PostScript 3,
and tools for making last-minute changes to text and graphics within
a PDF file.

Adobe Makes PDF More Accessible
In addition to shipping Adobe Acrobat 4.0, the company also
introduced today a new Web server companion tool that makes PDF files
more accessible on corporate Intranets, the Web and-for the first
time-to the visually impaired. Available to Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs) and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), the
Adobe Document Server allows users to view documents in PDF within
their Web browsers without the Acrobat Reader software installed on
users' machines. It converts PDF files to JPEG, GIF or HTML text.
Because it converts PDF files to text, conventional screen reading
programs can now read PDF files, and PDF content can now be fully
indexed by Internet search engines.

"Acrobat 4.0 makes PDF the common currency for delivering documents
anywhere, and now the Adobe Document Server extends the availability
of documents in PDF to a much wider audience," said Joe Eschbach,
vice president, Document Solutions, Adobe Systems. "Because the Adobe
Document Server doesn't require the Acrobat Reader to reside on a
user's desktop, it opens the doors for Acrobat and PDF to be used for
a wider variety of applications."

Pricing and Availability
Adobe Acrobat 4.0
Adobe Acrobat 4.0 software for Windows and Macintosh* is available

software after February, 16, 1999 are eligible to receive a free

available for the Macintosh later this year.

The Adobe Document Server for Windows NT and Sun Solaris2.5 was
designed for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Independent
Software Developers (ISVs) to integrate within their products. For
licensing information, please contact your local Adobe representative.
