ALADDIN ANNOUNCES STUFFIT DELUXE 4.5 - OS 8 COMPATIBLE, NEW EMAIL SUPPORT,
AND ADDED EXPANSION FORMATS

Aladdin Announces Special Offer To StuffIt Users- Free and Discounted Upgrade

Watsonville, CA- October 27, 1997 - Aladdin Systems today announced that
StuffIt(R) Deluxe 4.5 is expected to begin shipping October 31st. New
upgrade includes Mac OS 8 compatibility, support for more expansion formats
like MIME/Base64, encrypted ZIP, and LHA expansion, additional email
program support and Private File encrypted file support.

New Features in StuffIt Deluxe 4.5, include:
o OS 8 compatibility
o Added format support for Base64/MIME decoding
o OS 8 Contextual Menu Manager support
o Browser greyscale appearance
o Added Mailer support for AOL 3.0, Claris EMailer, and Lotus cc:Mail
o LHA expansion
o StuffIt Expander has added support for ShrinkWrap disk image files
and Private File-encrypted files
o Encrypted ZIP expansion

"The new features in StuffIt Deluxe 4.5 make Internet downloads a breeze.
StuffIt covers all the common formats on the Internet, so it doesn't matter
which platform you receive files from. Aladdin makes it easy to
communicate," said Rakesh Chabra, StuffIt product manager.

True Finder Integration
The True Finder Integration(tm) (TFI) control panel acts as a central
location where users can tailor StuffIt's integration into the Mac OS8
Finder. The TFI control panel adds compression, expansion, and file
translation with an extensible architecture including three TFI
"extensions:" StuffIt Browser(tm), Magic Menu(tm), and Archive Via
Rename(tm).

StuffIt Browser
StuffIt archives can be viewed and manipulated in the Finder through the
StuffIt Browser. StuffIt Browser makes it easy to create, examine and
modify archives - without leaving the Finder. StuffIt Browser is a
convenient time-saver because users don't have to run the StuffIt Deluxe
application to work with their archives.

StuffIt Browser also makes it easier for users to archive files on their
hard drive using specific criteria. Using Apple's Find File utility, users
can search their hard drive for files to archive based on file name, date
modified, and then drag and drop files from Find File into a Browser window
or onto a closed StuffIt archive.

Magic Menu
Magic Menu, a Finder menu of compression and utility functions supports
Internet archiving, encoding file formats and expansion of segmented and
multi-part UUencoded and BinHex files. Compression formats the Mac OS 8
compatible Magic Menu expands include: StuffIt (.sit), Compact Pro (.cpt),
AppleLink (.pkg), ZIP (.zip), ARC (.arc), gzip (.gz), tar (.tar), Unix
Compress (.Z), LHA (.lha), UUencode (.uu), BinHex (.hqx), MacBinary (.bin),
Base64/MIME, and SpaceSaver-compressed files. Magic Menu also Stuffs files
and joins StuffIt-segmented files.

Contextual Menus are now supported in StuffIt Deluxe 4.5. Clicking on a
file or folder while holding down the Control key opens the Mac OS 8
contextual menu list with StuffIt's Magic Menu commands, making StuffIt's
commands available from any file.

Archive Via Rename
Archive Via Rename extends file compression and expansion into the Mac OS8
Finder. Adding or deleting the ".sit" or ".sea" suffix to a file or folder
name will instantly convert it into a StuffIt archive, self-extracting
archive or expanded file.

Other improvements and features in StuffIt Deluxe 4.5:

Internet Support
o Integration with mail (AOL 3.0, Claris EMailer, and Lotus cc:Mail) by
simply selecting an item in the Finder and choosing "Stuff and Mail" from
Magic Menu, the file or folder is Stuffed into an archive and attached to a
newly-created e-mail message.
o Support of UUencoded, BinHex and Base64/MIME-encoded files.

Faster Stuffing And Expansion
o StuffIt Deluxe 4.5 is faster than previous versions. BinHex and UUcode
expansion speed has improved significantly.
o StuffIt Deluxe also includes DropStuff which creates StuffIt archives,
self-extracting archives and can optionally BinHex-encode archives for
distribution over the Internet.

Other features
o Drag and drop applications (or "drop boxes") are included with StuffIt 4.5.
o DropCompress, a drop box included in 4.5, allows users to quickly
SpaceSaver-compress files for saving disk space.
o DropSegment allows users to segment large files and StuffIt archives
using a drag and drop interface. This feature allows users to fit large
archives on portable media such as floppy disks and Zip or SyQuest drives
which can be fully restored into a single file again.

"StuffIt Deluxe is such an easy product to use for compression and
expansion on virtually any platform found on the Internet. With StuffIt's
virtually transparent compression, you hardly notice you are using it, but
it is such an essential utility," said Jonathan Kahn, vice president,
Aladdin business line.
