March 31, 1997. Cambridge, Massachusetts. Amidst pre-release enthusiasm,
industry compliments and a burgeoning worldwide Java(tm) industry, Roaster
Technologies, Inc. today announced that it has begun shipping its eagerly
awaited Roaster(tm) Release 3. This is the first release of the newly
formed company (a recent spin-off of Natural Intelligence, Inc.), whose
focus is on software products for Java developers.

Roaster is the pioneering Integrated Development Environment for Java on
the Macintosh(r). Release 3, the first non-developer release, not only
includes exciting new features and an array of bundled 'goodies,' but is
also offering a special introductory price of $49.00.

"This is indeed cause for celebration," noted John Dhabolt, President and
CEO of Roaster Technologies, Inc. "We believe that we have achieved our
primary goal - to make harnessing the power of Java as simple as possible."

A Quick Look at Some of the New Features.

- Users now have ability to create stand-alone Macintosh applications and
applets easily. The operative word is 'easily' - using the power of Java
has been made as simple as possible while still taking optimal advantage of
the Macintosh platform.

- Release 3 can easily create fully cross-platform zip files from your Java
classes.

- Release 3 users can place their frequently used class libraries in one
central location which is visible to the entire environment.

- The Release 3 user can further extend the functionality of the Roaster
environment by adding in their own compilers that they write in Java!

- Hundreds of example applets and applications with source code so the user
has instant access to a wealth of examples from which to learn: including a
fully functional web server written entirely in Java.

- Partnerships with companies to bring the best of the Java world -
Netscape Communications (Internet Foundation Classes and Constructor for
Java), Object Design (PSE for Java), OpenLink Software (JDBC Drivers),
ObjectSpace (Java Generic Library), Microline Software (Microline Component
Toolkit 3.0 Lite) and InWorld VR (J3D SpaceCrafter).

Other features include a Wizard for creating new projects, the ability to
launch AppleScripts from Java, native method support, a more advanced
debugger, object database support with PSE for Java from Object Design,
JDBC support from OpenLink Software, and Roaster Technologies' own JIT
(just-in-time) compiler.

Dhabolt was especially pleased with the JIT compilation speed results. "The
Roaster JIT is the fastest on the market for the Macintosh. We have run
industry standard tests against all similar products and we are, on the
average, 90% faster than anything out there."

For those who want more details about the release, extensive information is
available on Roaster Technologies' website at www.roaster.com - a very
popular site for Java aficionados, since it also includes extensive Java
news updated on an almost daily basis. (www.roaster.com/news/).

One of the Roaster fans, a professional developer and critic known to
Macintosh users as "Uncle Dave" wrote: "I will be contacting everyone I
know with a Mac, urging him or her to buy Roaster Release 3. My experience
shows it is the cleanest, most rock-solid Java development environment
available. And how could anyone resist all the bundled goodies and the low
introductory price?"

Press and Awards
"Tech support to die for." (JavaWorld, July 1996)
"...the most experienced Java staff in the Mac universe." (Macworld, May 1996)

Awards
1997 Macworld World Class Award Finalist
