FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REAL SOFTWARE SHIPS REALBASIC 2.0.1.
Free update for version 2 users adds QuickTime 4 support, access to
Macintosh and Windows toolboxes, improves reliability.
AUSTIN, TEXAS - Apr. 28th, 1999 - REAL Software, Inc. today announced
that REALbasic 2.0.1 for Mac OS is shipping. This free update
improves overall reliability and adds QuickTime 4.0 video streaming
support and allows users to directly access the Mac OS and Windows
toolboxes. A fully functional trial version of REALbasic version
2.0.1 is available from REAL Software's web site.
Applications built with REALbasic v2.0.1 will automatically load
QuickTime 4.0 movies from the Internet that have streaming
instructions. Also, using the new OpenURLMovie method, users can pass
the Internet address of any QuickTime movie. If the movie is setup
for streaming, the movie will begin playing as it downloads otherwise
it will be completely downloaded prior to playing.
"Our users want to be able to incorporate the latest and greatest
Apple technologies in the applications they build with REALbasic. For
that reason, we keep REALbasic on the cutting edge," said REAL
Software president Geoff Perlman.
Version 2.0.1 also allows users to directly make toolbox calls to the
Mac OS and Windows operating systems. This makes it easy to add
support for technologies that REALbasic has yet to directly
incorporate. "In the past, this kind of access had to be done through
the use of plug-ins, XCMDs, and PowerPC shared libraries. Our users
wanted an easier way to make toolbox calls without having to create
external libraries in order to do it," said Andrew Barry, REAL
Software's Chief of Development.
REALbasic is the easy-to-use integrated development environment (IDE)
that enables users at all levels to create powerful stand-alone,
native 68k, PowerPC and Windows applications quickly and easily,
without having to learn a complex programming language such as C++ or
the details of the Macintosh or Windows Toolbox. REALbasic lets you
create the entire user interface for your applications in minutes
without any programming. Its programming language is an
object-oriented version of the BASIC programming language and is
highly compatible with Microsoft's Visual Basic.
REALbasic is available for download now from REAL Software's web site
at www.realsoftware.com. REALbasic can be purchased directly from
REAL Software for $99.95 (for the Standard Edition) and $299.95 (for
the Professional Edition). Academic pricing is also available.

www.realsoftware.com; by phone at 512-263-1233; by fax at

computer with a 68020 processor or higher; 2.5 MB RAM; System 7.1 or
later; and 80 MB of free hard disk space for full installation of the
software, documentation, and examples. REALbasic ships in CD-ROM
format, requiring a CD-ROM drive and can also be downloaded from REAL
Software's web site. REAL Software offers disk fulfillment for an
additional charge.
