WinA&D 1.0 and MacA&D 5.1 for Software Engineering

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa, August 15, 1996 --- Excel Software is pleased to announce
availability of new software engineering products for Windows 95/NT,
Macintosh and UNIX/MAE computers. The company has begun shipments of the new
WinA&D product line to provide unmatched ease-of-use, integration and
comprehensive support for today's most popular software engineering methods.
A new release of its Macintosh product line, MacA&D 5.1 uses a new shared
document format for compatibility with WinA&D products.

WinA&D 1.0 provides system analysts and software designers with comprehensive
software engineering methods including object-oriented analysis and design
(OOA/OOD), structured analysis and design, real-time and multi-task design,
data modeling, integrated code editing and browsing, requirements
traceability and use cases, and multi-user team dictionary and team
requirement documents. Code can be generated from design models for C, C++,
Pascal, Delphi, Fortran, Basic or SQL. The OOA/OOD support includes the
Booch, OMT, Shlaer/Mellor, Coad/Yourdon, Jacobson and Fusion methods. Users
can pick and mix the best aspects of each method and do significant
customization with hundreds of diagram style options, templates and a user
definable symbol library.

With a decade of experience in delivering software engineering tools to
thousands of current MacA&D customers in over twenty countries, Excel
Software now addresses the needs of professional developers, consultants and
educators using Windows computers. WinA&D products are 32 bit applications
for Windows 95 and Windows NT computers that offer impressive speed,
ease-of-use and support for new operating system features like long file
names. Each product supports standard Windows features like the Multiple
Document Interface, popup menus accessible with a right mouse button click
and extensive online help. WinA&D is available in three product options,
WinA&D Desktop, WinA&D Educational or WinA&D Developer and can be purchased
by single user, 5 User Site or Unlimited User Site licenses.

WinA&D Desktop at $1295 supports popular software engineering methods used by
system analysts and independent software developers. WinA&D Educational at
$845 is functionally similar to WinA&D Desktop but size limited to
small-medium projects and licensed for educational use only. WinA&D
Developer at $1995 is the ideal tool for corporate team developers using
software engineering methods. It adds task models, requirements traceability
and use cases to the WinA&D Desktop capabilities, plus multi-user team
documents for site license users.

MacA&D 5.1 products for Macintosh computers now share the same document
format as WinA&D 1.0 products. Other functional enhancements include movable
modal dialogs throughout the product. MacA&D products also run on UNIX
workstations using Apple's MAE (Macintosh Application Environment) software.
The MacA&D suite of product options and pricing has been streamlined from
earlier versions to consist of MacAnalyst at $995, MacDesigner at $995 and
the combined MacA&D at $1995. Educational versions and site licenses are
available for each product option.

Software developers can now edit design documents from different computers
while retaining the unique capabilities of each operating system. For
example, MacA&D supports publish and subscribe within all diagram editors.
This unique Macintosh technology can be used without affecting Windows users
of those same documents. In addition to sharing documents between different
platforms by diskette, these products fully support team editing on a mixed
platform network. For example, documents edited from WinA&D will show up
with standard Macintosh icons if they physically reside on a Macintosh file
server. The tools can also transparently adjust for differences in fonts,
sizes and text file formats between different machines and operating systems.
Users have complete flexibility in partitioning their projects across shared
drives in a heterogeneous, networked environment.

To assist software designers in exploring software engineering methods or
evaluating these products, Excel Software is offering a MacA&D Demo & Manuals
package and a WinA&D Demo & Manuals package at $75 each. Each package
includes a set of diskettes with full product software and limited save
capability. Software engineering documents for over a dozen sample projects
are included using many popular methods. Each package has complete printed
documentation consisting of a User's Guide, Introduction & Tutorials Guide
and Document Sharing Guide.
