MAC OS

PICT FM PERFORMS ON-THE-FLY IMAGE CONVERSION FOR FILEMAKER PRO 3.0 WEB SITES

Palo Alto CA -- February 6, 1997 -- Web Broadcasting Corporation has announced
the release of PICT FM 1.0, the first web server picture add-on product for
Claris Corp.'s FileMaker(r) Pro 3.0v4 for Macintosh. PICT FM enables
on-the-fly PICT to JPEG conversion of graphic images stored or referenced in
FileMaker Pro 3.0 container fields. As a special purpose web server plug-in,
image conversions are exceptionally fast. If a file reference to the source
image rather than the image itself is stored in the container field, than PICT
FM will convert the source image, if necessary, to the JPEG file format
on-the-fly as it serves the image to the web browser. If the source image is
already a GIF or JPEG file, than PICT FM does no conversion at all and will
simply serve the source file as-is.

BACKGROUND
PICT FM was developed to solve the compatibility and graphic management
problems in serving graphics from FileMaker Pro 3.0 databases on the World
Wide Web and corporate Intranets. FileMaker Pro 3.0 for Mac OS only stores
imported database graphics in Macintosh PICT format, regardless of the file
format of the original graphic image. In order for a graphic included in an
HTML document to appear inline in a web browser, the graphic must be in GIF or
JPEG format. A separate PICT to GIF or JPEG image conversion process is
required before it can be published on the web. PICT FM's on-the-fly PICT to
JPEG conversion process solves these problems and makes FileMaker Pro 3.0 a
much more integrated solution with any Mac OS-based web site.

COMPATIBILITY
PICT FM is compatible with any web server supporting Quarterdeck Corporation's
WebSTAR API 1.1 (W*API) plug-in standard and requires the version 4 release of
FileMaker Pro 3.0 for Mac OS.

PICT FM was designed for use with ALL the existing general purpose web server
CGI's and plug-ins available for FileMaker Pro 3.0 including WEB FMA, TangoA,
LassoA, and ROFMA.

SYNTAX EXAMPLES
For WEB FM or ROFM Calculation:
"(IMG SRC=""database+name.fmp?RecNum=" & RecNum & "&picture=photo"")"

For Tango query document:
(IMG SRC="database+name.fmp?RecID=(@COLUMN
"Layout_0.record_id")&picture=photo")

For Lasso format file:
(IMG SRC="database+name.fmp?RecID=[recid]&picture=photo")

PICTUREPLUG
PicturePlug (included) is a web server plug-in that performs on-the-fly PICT
to JPEG compression of PICT files on disk. Although not specifically for
FileMaker Pro 3.0, PicturePlug may prove useful for saving PICT images and
serving them on the web inline without having to first convert them to GIF or
JPEG.

ORDERING & DOWNLOAD INFORMATION
PICT FM pricing is $125, or just $99 for purchases made by Friday, February
28th, 1997. A demonstration version of PICT FM may be downloaded at:
