[MD1] NetCarta Supports Apple's HotSauce

NetCarta Corporation Supports Apple's HotSauce Technology for Website
Mapping Library of Over 30,000 WebMaps to be Provided in Meta Content
Format (MCF); NetCarta to Launch MCF Site Service on the Web.

INTERNET WORLD-- NEW YORK--Dec. 11, 1996--NetCarta Corporation, a
subsidiary of CMG Information Services (NASDAQ:CMGI), and Apple
Computer, Inc. announced today that they have signed an agreement
regarding Apple's HotSauce Technology. NetCarta has incorporated Apple's
HotSauce Meta Content Format (MCF), which allows developers to build
data access tools that work with any kind of Internet or intranet-based
data, in its web content management tools. NetCarta plans to enhance its
NetCarta WebMapper content management software, which currently runs on
Microsoft Windows and UNIX-compatible platforms, to automatically
generate MCF site maps for site navigation. In addition, the NetCarta
WebMap Library, which contains over 30,000 site maps rendered in
NetCarta WebMap format of the most popular commercial, entertainment,
and government sites on the web, will also be available in HotSauce MCF.

NetCarta has launched a "Sauce Your Site" service on its website for
users to request and receive an MCF file of their favorite site. The
HotSauce MCF site map will allow users of the Apple HotSauce browser
plug-in to fly through Web sites in 3D to find information quickly. In
addition, Apple will actively promote the "Sauce Your Site" service, and
the availability of MCF files in the NetCarta WebMap Library, by
pointing to the NetCarta website from the Apple website.

"Webmasters have two major responsibilities: making sure the content on
their sites is current and accurate, and creating a fun, easily
navigable environment for users," said Thomas Tansy, vice president of
Marketing for NetCarta Corporation. "NetCarta WebMapper, which uses the
metaphor of a map, addresses both of these needs. Now, with HotSauce
MCF, we are able to deliver the site navigation experience to the end
user in 3D. MCF is an important technology for the web, and we're
pleased to be working with Apple to make it a standard." "NetCarta is a
website mapping pioneer and has some of the best software available for
that purpose," added Larry Tesler, vice president of Apple's AppleNet
division. "The easiest way to make site maps available is to make the
production of them automatic. Through this relationship,
HotSauce-viewable maps will be generated every time webmasters use
NetCarta WebMapper to manage their site's content."

Apple's HotSauce: Connecting Any View with Any Data The HotSauce meta
content format is used to represent a wide range of information about
content. It can describe information about content included in web
pages, gopher and FTP files, email, and structured databases, allowing
webmasters to make their content available through a variety of views to
consumers of the content. HotSauce MCF is both platform and application
independent.

In addition to Internet and intranet data, HotSauce MCF can describe
data on one's own computer and local area network, thereby enabling
seamless integration of desktop and network content, not only in HTML
browsers, but in a wide variety of access tools created by software
developers operating in an open market. NetCarta Corporation,
headquartered in Scotts Valley, California, is a leading provider of
content management solutions for managers of World Wide Web sites. With
NetCarta software, corporations can manage diverse Web content and
maintain high quality Web sites efficiently and cost-effectively.
Intended for Internet and corporate intranet Web sites, NetCarta
software is scalable from single servers to enterprise-wide management
systems.
