[MD1] NetBeans End-to-End Java Development Solution

NetBeans Announces End-to-End Java Development Solution through
Integrations with Leading Java UML and Debugging Vendors

JavaOne, San Francisco, June 17th, 1999 - NetBeans announced
integrations of its Java IDE (integrated development environment)
NetBeans Developer 3.0 with Together/J 3.0 UML (Unified Modeling
Language) tool from Object International and with Metamata Debug, the
leading Java debugging environment from Metamata, Inc. Developer 3.0
is written in Java 2 and enables rapid construction of Java
applications on any Java 2 platform. Publicly available this summer,
its modular, open architecture gives developers the power to extend
their development environment with plug-in modules from NetBeans and
a wide variety of third parties.

"Developer 3.0 is the first cross-platform Java development
environment that is able to evolve along with the Java 2 platform,"
said Ian Formanek, Vice President of Development at NetBeans, Inc.
"Our open, modular architecture and close partnerships with the
leading Java tools vendors gives developers the power and flexibility
to construct bleeding edge applications."

"Metamata Debug is the only Java debugger in the market capable of
running on any Java platform and attaching to and debugging Java
applications running on any Java platform," said Sriram Sankar,
President and CEO of Metamata, Inc. "With the growing use of Java for
server side and embedded applications, the unique features of
Metamata Debug together with Developer 3.0 will be a must for any
Java developer."

Peter Coad, President of Object International, said, "NetBeans
Developer 3.0 is a very clean programming environment--all of the
power, none of the clutter. Adding TJ Whiteboard brings the triad of
UML features that enterprise developers more and more insist upon:
patterns, components, and simultaneous round-trip engineering."

NetBeans Developer 3.0 is a complete Java integrated development
environment (IDE). Written in Java 2, it runs on any Java 2 enabled
platform such as Windows, Solaris, or Linux. Developer 3.0 is
designed for client-side development of Java applications and has a
complete feature set for integrated visual design, testing, editing,
compilation, and execution. The upcoming Developer 3.0 Pro powers
developers' production of database and servlet applications.
Developer 3.0 Enterprise Edition merges support for EJB, CORBA, RMI,
and JNDI into a single object-oriented environment. Through wizards
and templates, Enterprise speeds up the development and deployment of
distributed applications, while the underlying object technology
automatically keeps interfaces and implementations synchronized.

Metamata Debug 1.1 is a true cross-platform network aware debugger
for any kind of Java application (standalone, applet, servlet, EJB,
embedded systems, etc.). It is capable of attaching to and debugging
Java applications running anywhere on the network. It is the only
debugger that can debug directly within any web browser, web server,
or embedded system. It can debug both JDK 1.1 and Java 2 (JDK 1.2)
applications. Other unique features of Metamata Debug include a
command line interpreter (enabling rapid prototyping), strong
multiprocess and multithread support, graphical object browsing, and
static debugging.

Together/J 3.0 is a platform-independent modeling tool that increases
productivity and effectiveness of large development organizations. It
delivers patterns, components simultaneous round-trip engineering for
Java as well as all UML 1.3 diagrams. NetBeans Enterprise will be
integrated with Together/J Whiteboard and all versions of NetBeans
will allow users to download Together/J as a plug-in module. NetBeans
and Object International will be showing the integration at JavaOne.
