MAXUM DEVELOPMENT SHIPS PAGESENTRY AND PAGESENTRY PRO -
NOW MONITORING ALL YOUR INTERNET SERVERS
Streamwood, Illinois, September 30, 1996 - Maxum Development Corporation,
a leading developer of Macintosh Web server add-on tools, this week
shipped its upgrade to PageSentry Pro and a new product PageSentry.
Maxum's line of Internet server monitors allow customers to maintain
reliable Internet services seven days a week, 24 hours a day. In addition
to Web site monitoring, PageSentry 2.0 and PageSentry Pro 2.0, now provide
monitoring for FTP, SMTP (e-mail), DNS, and Telnet services as well.
PageSentry and PageSentry Pro use these high-level client services to test
the whole server operation, not just the low-level networking functions.
PageSentry Pro now allows the addition of 100 Sentries to monitor large
enterprise sites and Internet Services Providers. PageSentry is designed
to meet the needs of departmental or small enterprise server monitoring.
"This version has been almost a complete rewrite of the earlier versions,"
says Michael Clark, Director of Engineering for Maxum Development. "We
have tried to anticipate all possible concerns of the system administrator,
including a more intuitive interface and tremendous flexibility in
configuration."
It is an Internet imperative to provide visitors with reliable access
seven days a week, 24 hours a day to a Web site. Keeping their servers up
and running are the Webmaster's top priority. When a server fails,
PageSentry will notify anyone specified by e-mail or by using any
AppleEvent-aware application, including AppleScript applets. For example,
PageSentry includes applications for sending alpha-numeric pages (using
MarkSpace's PageNow! software, available direct from Maxum) or
automatically restarting servers (using Sophisticated Circuit's PowerKey
Pro hardware, also available direct from Maxum). Schedules and back up
notifications can also be set to define what actions should be taken at
different times of the day or days of the week. For example, PageSentry
might send an e-mail or page during business hours, but automatically
restart the server in the evening or on the week-end. PageSentry also
monitors itself via a "pulse", which can also be sent to the site
administrator. This ensures around-the-clock access of Internet services
to users.
"This new version greatly extends PageSentry's effectiveness", according
to Joe Duffy, Manager -Technology and Tools, Baxter Healthcare. "Now I have
a complete solution to monitoring all aspects of our global Internet
infrastructure".
Current license holders can upgrade by downloading the PageSentry Pro 2.0
demonstration version from Maxum's Web site and dropping their PageSentry
Pro Key on the demo application. PageSentry Pro retails for $349 and
PageSentry retails for $149.00 new customers can order by either visiting
