Metrowerks Ships New Release of CodeWarrior for Java (tm)
Version 5.0 Brings Remote Debugging, Servlet Debugging and RAD to Multiple
Platform Java Development
AUSTIN, Texas-November 1, 1999-Metrowerks Inc. today announced the
availability of remote debugging, servlet debugging and RAD (Rapid
Application Development) for the Java platform with the release of
CodeWarrior for Java Version 5.0.
Demonstrating its commitment to the needs of Java developers, Metrowerks
has added Rapid Application Development (RAD) tools to Version 5.0. RAD
tools provide developers with a graphical layout editor that allows them to
build a graphical user interface (GUI) for their Java programs with fast,
drag-and-drop technology.
The addition of professional RAD tools is also important because it makes
it much easier for beginning or intermediate Java developers to take
advantage of the power of the CodeWarrior IDE (Integrated Development
Environment.) While previous releases have targeted the expert programmer,
Version 5.0 will allow anyone who wants to develop for the Java platform to
do so with significant speed and ease. Version 5.0 also includes "wizards"
that guide users through the creation of Java applets, applications and
JavaBeans (tm).
"As the Java platform matures and the number of Java applications continues
to proliferate, Metrowerks wants to ensure that developers have the best
tools available," said Luis Quiroga, product marketing manager, Metrowerks.
"We believe CodeWarrior for Java Version 5.0 makes it easy for Java
developers at any skill level to build applications that take advantage of
the language's multi-platform benefits."
Sun Microsystems' Java platform and programming language has numerous
utilities and plug-ins, making it a challenge for any tools vendor to offer
support with a single package. But CodeWarrior for Java Version 5.0
supports Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.1.x and 1.2.x. With CodeWarrior for
Java Version 5.0, programmers can create fully compliant, 100% Pure Java
applications.
CodeWarrior for Java allows for development, debugging and sharing of
source code on multiple host platforms, including Macintosh, Windows,
Solaris (tm) and, in a future version, Linux. Additionally, Version 5.0
allows remote debugging of applications across networked computers. This
multiple-platform support means that Java applications developed with
CodeWarrior for Java will work for virtually all machines.
"Sun is happy to see Metrowerks' continued commitment to Java platforms and
its effort to always be among the first vendors to incorporate and make
available cutting-edge Java technologies with its CodeWarrior IDEs," said
Reza Nabavi, tools market development manager, Sun Microsystems.
Remote Debugging
Remote debugging allows you to debug applications across networked
computers and Internet devices. From a host system, a remote debugging
session can be conducted via a TCP/IP connection to debug Java code on a
device with a JDWP (Java Debugger Wire Protocol) compliant virtual machine.
Version 5.0 also supports servlet debugging with Sun's Java Servlet
Development Kit on Windows NT.
Java KL Group's Lite JavaBeans
CodeWarrior for Java Version 5.0 is bundled with KL Group's JClass
LiveTable Lite and JClass Chart Lite components. KL Group's Lite JavaBeans,
when added to CodeWarrior, give developers versatile tools that enhance the
look and functionality of their user interfaces. With these tools,
developers can easily build powerful grid and charting functionality into
their applications, all from the CodeWarrior IDE.
Pricing and Availability
CodeWarrior for Java Version 5.0 is priced at US$99 ESP (estimated street
price) in the U.S., and is available from Metrowerks and Metrowerks
authorized resellers.
