Metrowerks to Ship CodeWarrior Professional 3, the Latest Version of
Software
Development Tools for Windows(R) 95, Windows NT(R), and Mac(R) OS

New CodeWarrior Debugger is Now Seamlessly Integrated With New IDE 3.0.
Also
Featured is a New Java-to-Native Compiler

AUSTIN, Texas - March 23, 1998 - Metrowerks Inc. (NASDAQ: MTWKF,
TSE/ME:MWK)
announced today the company will, in the last week of March, begin
shipping
CodeWarrior Professional 3, the latest release of CodeWarrior software
development tools that combines Windows-hosted and Mac-hosted desktop
tools
into a single unified package. CodeWarrior Professional 3 includes IDE
3.0,
the latest version of Metrowerks award winning integrated development
environment, which includes a fully integrated debugger and a new
Java-to-native compiler. The new IDE also allows programmers to take
advantage
of both the Intel MMX(TM) and AMD-3D(TM) instruction sets.

New CodeWarrior Integrated Debugger
The new integrated debugger supports x86, PowerPC(TM), 68K, and Java, and
is
seamlessly integrated into the IDE. Benefits for developers using an
integrated debugger include:
-- No switching back and forth between debugger and IDE
-- Reduced memory usage by not having to run separate IDE and debugger
applications
-- All the powerful editing and project management tools in the IDE are
available to the programmer during debug. For example, one can step
through
each line of code and set breakpoints directly in the editor during debug
instead of having to run a separate debugger.

These advantages add up to improved project management and reduced
time-to-market with the finished product.

CodeWarrior Support for MMX and AMD-3D Technology
CodeWarrior Professional 3 now supports inline assembly for the MMX and
AMD-3D
Technology instruction sets and supports optimization and code generation
for
the MMX, K6, and AMD K6-3D instruction sets. Available on Windows-hosted
tools
only, CodeWarrior support for MMX and AMD-3D Technology is particularly
advantageous for programmers, such as game developers, who are writing
applications for a consumer market that demands outstanding graphics and
multimedia capabilities.

Enhanced Java Development
CodeWarrior Professional 3 includes significant improvements and
additions to
the Java tools that are designed to bring Java into the mainstream of
language
development. These tools include:
-- Java-to-native pre-release compiler plugins for x86 and PowerPC
targets.
This compiler will compile Java source code and produce the equivalent
target
executable. This means programmers can now use Java as a natively
executed
programming language just like C, enabling their applications to run at
performance levels similar to other native applications.
-- The new JavaDoc postlinker makes use of information generated during
the
compilers parsing phase to generate the HTML documentation instead or
requiring the JavaDoc linker to regenerate the information itself.

"We are very excited about the release of CodeWarrior Professional 3,
which
has
been tuned to meet the needs of Java developers as well as games and
multimedia
developers," said Jean Belanger, chairman and chief executive officer,
Metrowerks. "But, the technical achievements are only part of the
CodeWarrior
Professional 3 package. Add to that strong customer relations and fast,
informative technical support, and you have a complete software
development
package with the features and services developers want."

Additional improvements in CodeWarrior Professional 3 include: compare
folder
capability, allowing programmers to compare multiple files simultaneously;
support for Visual SourceSafe 5.0 and it's API (for Windows), allowing
developers to check-in and check-out files without the need to run Visual
SourceSafe as a separate application; and Window Console I/O capabilities,
allowing the programmer to send output to a Window Console, save in ASCII
text
format, and print.

Pricing and Availability
CodeWarrior Professional 3 begins shipping in the last week of March ,
1998,
priced at US$449, and is available from Metrowerks and Metrowerks
authorized
resellers. Academic pricing is US$119. All purchases include one free
update
and technical support for a year from Metrowerks. Site license pricing is
also
available by contacting Metrowerks at 800-377-5416, or by sending a
