FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MACHACK RELEASES CD AND POSTS HACKS TO FTP

March 11, 1998 -- Grosse Pointe Park, MI -- MacHack, The Annual Conference
for Leading Edge Developers with support from Apple Computer Inc. and
MacTech Magazine, today announced that the MacHack 1997 CD is now
available. In addition, these hacks are now available FREE via ftp.

Included on the CD are over 50 of the hacks and source submitted for the
1997 Hack contest, including source for the winning hack "BillBoot" which
relaces the standard Macintosh boot sequence with a Win95-looking sequence.
Other hacks on the CD include KittenOnTheKeyboard, which can lock a
keyboard to prevent unwanted keystrokes, VerticalHold, which reproduced a
hack effect described by Steve Wozniak during his keynote at the
conference, and WebAdder, which adds banner adds to web pages which would
otherwise lack them.

Also included on the CD are many of the presentation slides from sessions
in 1997 and a list of attendees to the conference. In addition, the CD
includes hacks & source from MacHack 1996 and 1995 and many of the
presentations from those years.

The CD has now been sent to all 1997 conference attendees and should be
received by March 15, 1998. The hacks from the CD are also available on
the MacHack and MacTech ftp sites at:

About MacHack and Expotech

In 1986, some folks at the Computer Aided Engineering Network of the
University of Michigan thought the brand new Macintosh technology would be
a good thing to know more about. They planned an academic conference
related to Macintosh system management issues. They gathered content and
speakers, then faced with the logistics of managing the conference, asked
Expotech to run it. The first MacHack was quite successful. U-M decided
they would rather not run such a conference again, even though those who
attended it wanted more. So it came to pass that the rights to the name
MacHack was transferred to Expotech, who have run all MacHack conferences
since. Expotech is a conference management company, incorporated in 1986.
While Expotech staff has aggregated more than 55 years' experience running
conferences of all types and sizes, the company specializes in technical
conferences.
