LIVE SOFTWARE TO RELEASE FREE VERSION OF JRUN 2.0

"SERVLETS EVERYWHERE," JRUN SET TO BECOME THE INDUSTRY STANDARD JAVA
SERVLET RUNNER

SAN DIEGO, California (November 3, 1997) - Live Software, Inc. announces
version 2.0 of their JRun(tm) product line. JRun adds support for the
Java(tm) Servlet API to web servers and applications. This exciting new
release leverages the technology from JRun version 1.0 and expands the
breadth of supported platforms. JRun version 2.0 now fully supports
Netscape's FastTrack and Enterprise Server 3.0, Microsoft's Internet
Information Server 3.0 and 4.0, Microsoft's Personal Web Server, O'Reilly &
Associates' WebSite Pro 2.1, and StarNine's WebSTAR 2.1 and 3.0 for Mac OS.

Servlets are Java-based applications written to the Java Servlet API.
Servlets are akin to applets running in a browser, but instead run on the
server. Through the use of servlets, traditional CGI applications and
extensions written in Perl, C/C++, or other languages can be replaced using
pure Java implementations. Servlets offer better performance than most
legacy CGI applications because servlets are only loaded once and reused
over and over by the server. Using Java as the development language makes
writing server-side applications easier and more bug-free.

By supporting such a wide spectrum of web servers, JRun assures the
developer of complete cross-platform and cross-server compatibility,
allowing development on one server/platform and deployment on another.

O'Reilly & Associates recently announced their adoption of JRun 2.0 as the
standard Java servlet runner for their WebSite Pro 2.1 server. JRun will be
bundled in future versions of O'Reilly's WebSite Pro. "Our partnership with
Live Software is one more way we offer the broadest range of web
development options to our customers," says Kimberly Simoni, WebSite
product manager. "Thanks to the integrated JRun technology, they'll be able
to develop with WebSite Professional 2.1 and deploy on any server which
supports JavaSoft's Java servlet. This also allows greater flexibility for
WebSite applications using standards as defined by JavaSoft and Sun."

All versions of JRun 2.0 fully implement the Java Servlet API. In addition,
JRun also implements many of the advanced features found in the Java Web
Server. Following are some of JRun 2.0's feature highlights:

- dynamic reloading of modified servlets
- packaging of servlets in .zip/.jar files
- dynamic reloading of modified .zip/.jar files
- servlet initialization parameters
- servlet chaining
- servlet filtering
- servlet chains within filters
- multi-homing (virtual server) support
- servlet and logging directories for each virtual server
- (SERVLET) tag support
- user session tracking (Servlet API 1.1 Alpha)
- administration application

Paul Colton, president and CEO of Live Software, adds, "This second
generation of our JRun product line brings the state-of-the-art in servlet
deployment to all major industry web servers. O'Reilly's adoption of this
technology is a testament to the quality and performance of our product."

Paul further adds, "Live Software is committed to delivering the fastest
and most scalable high-quality components for server-side Java. We see JRun
as a commodity that will help build the infrastructure for our servlet
product deployment."
