Transware adds Internet Proxy Gateway to TransTalk MP:
Connect an entire LAN to the Internet through a single IP dial-up connection.
Mountain View, CA November 25th, 1996 TransTalk MP is the first high speed
wide area network (WAN) router with a built-in Internet Proxy Gateway that
allows connection to the internet in a easy, cost effective and secure
manner.
TransTalk MP with its user friendly interface is ideal for network
administrators who want to offer Internet services to their users without
compromising security. TransTalk MP opens Internet access to all Mac's and
PC's connected to the local network. With the new Internet Proxy Gateway
all IP traffic coming from the various stations on the local network will
be "multiplexed" and sent through the sole Internet IP address allocated by
the Internet Service Provider (ISP). Similarly, reply IP packets coming
from the Internet will be automatically and transparently forwarded to
their destination on the local network.
TransTalk MP with its innovative Internet Proxy Gateway feature offers
several key benefits:
First of them is a big saving in monthly cost of Internet access. Using
TransTalk MP, the whole local network can rely on a simple, low-cost
Internet access, compared to very expensive monthly rates ISPs usually
charge for LAN access. In fact, with such cost savings, the TransTalk MP
will pay for itself in less than 6 months.
The second benefit is in the ease and transparency in installation. IP
addresses of local computers and peripherals need not to be modified in any
way, even though they were not officially obtained from an Internet
authority. These addresses will always remain local and will never get out
of the site's corporate network.
The third benefit is in network security. Indeed, given that IP addresses
of local stations are not used in Internet communication, risk of undesired
outside access to the local network is eliminated. Even if a would-be
intruder knew the local addresses of the network's IP computers, he or she
will still not be able to send any IP packet to that site. In other words,
the Internet Proxy Gateway allows for local computers to be secure clients
for services available on the Internet.
TransTalk MP offers multi-protocol support including routing TCP/IP,
AppleTalk, DECnet and bridging of all other protocols such as IPX, NetBEUI,
and LAT. The TransTalk family also includes TransTalk LT (LocalTalk).
The TransTalk family of products are inter-operable for connecting LANs
supporting different network protocols and cabling systems.
TransTalk routers are plug and play with Transware Manager, Transware's
award winning, easy to use, graphical management and configuration software.
TransTalk MP offers full support for both asynchronous and synchronous
communication, at speed up to 2 Mbps., so it can be used with modem as well
as ISDN, Switched-56, T-1 or Fractional T-1 equipment.
