INSIDER UPDATES 2.5 SPEEDS APPLICATION UPDATE PROCESS
New 2.5 Release of Macintosh Software Updater Runs 2.5 Times Faster

February 16, 1998 [Carlsbad, CA] Insider Software today announced the
availability of Insider Updates 2.5, a release that runs 2.5 times faster
than earlier versions and also includes improved documentation and user
interface features.

TWO MINUTES TO SCAN TWO GIGABYTES
Insider Updates takes an inventory of every application and operating
system program on a Macintosh, contacts Insider Software's web site,
determines precisely which updaters are required to bring the system
up-to-date, and downloads the updaters to the Macintosh's hard disk. Using
improved disk scanning methods, the new 2.5 release can analyze an entire
two-gigabyte drive in two minutes, instead of the five minutes required by
earlier versions.

PERFORMANCE GOAL DROVE NEW RELEASE
"Our objective with the Insider Updates 2.5 release was to make it twice as
fast," said Rio Sabadicci, president of Insider Software. "It was an
aggressive goal, but the faster we run, the more convenient it is for our
users to check for new updaters, and the more satisfied they'll be. I'm
thrilled that our expertise of the Macintosh file system produced such a
dramatic increase. We've also added web server capacity to make sure our
customers can run updating sessions as often as they like."

FREQUENT UPDATERS AND LARGER DISKS MAKE UPDATES MORE IMPORTANT
"Insider Updates was already fast, but we need to stay ahead of our
customers' needs," continued Sabadicci. "With users adding disk capacity
and software manufacturers releasing updaters all the time, our customers
want to run Insider Updates regularly. We need to make sure that our
performance never prevents our customers from getting the software they
need for their Macs to run flawlessly."

NEW AND IMPROVED USER INTERFACE AND DOCUMENTATION
Insider Updates 2.5 also features user interface and documentation
improvements. The dialogs have been redesigned and rewritten for clarity,
consistency and usefulness. Insider Updates' new documentation answers
common user questions, offers usage tips and includes updated technical
support contact information.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Insider Updates 2.5 is available for immediate download from Insider
Software's web site at www.theInside.com. After downloading Insider
Updates, users can analyze run it to determine which updates they need to
bring their Macintosh current, as well as update their Apple system
software at no charge. To update their application software, users pay $7
per month, and are allowed to connect to Insider's web server as often as
they like.

ABOUT INSIDER UPDATES
Insider Updates is the leading Internet-based software update program that
automatically delivers all the necessary software updates to a Macintosh
computer. Instead of visiting various Web sites and tediously comparing
software version numbers to get updaters, Insider Updates compares users'
installed software with available updaters from over 2,000 Macintosh
developers and automatically downloads all the relevant updaters from
Insider's high-speed internet servers. The program can be scheduled to run
automatically during non-business hours. Insider Updates does not transmit
any information about the users' computer and does not automatically
install updaters.

ABOUT INSIDER SOFTWARE
Insider Software, founded in 1993 and based in Carlsbad, California,
develops and markets software products that make Macintosh computers run
better. In addition to Insider Updates, Insider also produces Font Box, the
leading font maintenance and repair utility, and HyperBox, a
hypertext-based document launcher. They can be found on the world wide web
at http://www.theInside.com.
