Apple Announces HyperCard Update and Software Bundle HyperCard 2.3.5.

Includes New Features Plus Software Bundle of Leading Entertainment and
Web Publishing Titles; Price Remains Unchanged at U.S. $99.00.

INTERNET WORLD--NEW YORK--Dec. 11, 1996--Apple Computer, Inc. today
announced an update of HyperCard to version 2.3.5 which includes a value
bundle of Internet-oriented and multimedia entertainment software--the
price of HyperCard remains unchanged at a U.S. retail of $99.00. The new
HyperCard bundle includes leading software for entertainment and
web-based publishing: --The best-selling computer game of all time--Myst
from Cyan/Broderbund, which is based on HyperCard -- The five-mouse
rated (by MacUser Magazine) Movie Cleaner LE QuickTime authoring
solution and the associated web motion plug-in from Terran Interactive
-- LiveCard from Royal/Heizer Software, which enables real-time
streaming of HyperCard stacks off the net that are viewable by Windows,
UNIX, and Mac OS web surfers. LiveCard accomplishes this by streaming
each card in the stack as an industry-standard HTML format file. These
files are readable on any platform while maintaining button and script
functionality. LiveCard enables educational, business, and productivity
stacks to be leveraged across Internet/intranet and across an enterprise
through any computer client -- WebStar from Quarterdeck Systems, a
30-day time-limited version of the industry-leading Mac web server
software The Version 2.3.5 update also builds upon the new features
introduced in HyperCard 2.3, which included: -- Native PowerPC code and
standalone applications for Power Macintosh users -- 24-bit color
painting -- New button task enhancements for launching applications
such as Netscape Navigator -- Automation via AppleScript and new power
and flexibility in HyperTalk scripting. For the first time, users can
launch, control, exchange data, and integrate with scriptable
applications using AppleScript.

This update includes optimized code for Power Macintosh with additional
performance enhancements.

The HyperCard 2.3.5 bundle is available immediately through Apple's
Claris subsidiary through retail software channels and will also be
distributed thorough volume licensing and maintenance agreements.
"Through this new web-oriented software bundle, HyperCard stacks can now
be read on PCs and workstations through the Internet--this marks the
beginning of HyperCard as a multi-platform data delivery vehicle," said
Param Singh, manager of media authoring products for Apple Computer,
Inc. "We are actively encouraging our widespread user-base to upgrade to
this new version in preparation for the major update of HyperCard to 3.0
next year--we are specifically qualifying backward-compatibility with
version 2.3.5. The software bundle associated with this upgrade
continues HyperCard's value proposition as the leading authoring tool
for the Mac end-user." Apple Computer, Inc., a recognized innovator in
