General Magic Ships Internet Developer's Kit For Magic Cap Platform

Industry-Leading Tools Ease Development of Internet Applications
for Handheld Devices

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- General Magic (Nasdaq: GMGC)
today shipped the Magic Internet Kit, software tools that enable developers to
more quickly create Internet, intranet, and other communicating applications
for handheld communicators such as the Sony Magic Link PIC-2000 or the Envoy
150 Wireless Communicator from Motorola.
The kit consists of an object framework which allows easier and faster
development of applications that communicate via a variety of protocols,
including the Internet standard TCP/IP, the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) used
by most Internet service providers, or the Ethernet protocol. The Magic
Internet Kit is available now via General Magic's Web site
http://www.genmagic.com/Develop/MagicCap/Internet/ and is included in the
CodeWarrior 10 CD-ROM from Metrowerks.
"We're excited to provide developers with a robust and easy-to-use set of
tools which shield them from the complexities of required communications
protocols," said Mark "The Red" Harlan, Director of Developer Services for
General Magic. "The Magic Internet Kit removes what has been a formidable
barrier in developing communicating applications, and helps developers save
time, money, and energy at a time when the market is demanding shorter and
shorter development cycles. The kit clearly differentiates Magic Cap from
other handheld environments and further enhances Magic Cap's status as a
premier communicating platform for handhelds."
The Magic Internet Kit consists of an automated applications creation tool
that produces code for developers based on criteria selected in the kit's
application template. Developers can specify connection type (serial or
TCP/IP) and hardware to be supported (such as modem or serial port), and the
kit automatically outputs the necessary code. It also includes class
libraries containing objects for communications functions. Together, these
features eliminate the need for developers to write communicating code
themselves, thus saving developers time and simplifying the development of
applications involving communications.
In accordance with U.S. securities law, General Magic notes that this
press release contains forward-looking statements. There are risks that may
cause actual results to vary materially. These risks include, but are not
