[MD1] FairCom Macintosh Server V6.8 and Licensing Announcement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RE: FairCom releases new version of FairCom Macintosh Server V6.8
offering file encryption, enhanced file mirroring and many new robust
features such as conditional indices and transaction history logic.

Columbia, MO February 1, 1999 --FairCom Corporation announced the
latest release of its FairCom Macintosh database Server with file
encryption. This ability to encrypt data and index files as well as
transaction log files provides an extra level of confidentiality to
an application's data files. Files that are encrypted using the
FairCom Server's encryption algorithm can only be decrypted by the
FairCom Server. This feature prevents standalone applications from
gaining access to sensitive data.

In addition, the FairCom Macintosh Server SDK provides an additional
level of security by allowing developers to customize the encryption
process so that only the server that has encrypted the data can
access it. "Data encryption prevents the casual user from having the
ability to 'dump' or 'inspect' data." explains Winston Atkisson,
FairCom's Senior Engineer. "The actual implementation of this feature
is quite easy as the developer need only specify via a new function
in the c-tree Plus API whether or not a file and its index are to be
encrypted. Encryption is especially important to our customers in the
financial services industry or any other c-tree Plus customer who may
be storing sensitive data."

Panos Neris, Vice-President of Citibank, N.A. commented, "Our
development group found FairCom's engineering team deserving of their
excellent reputation. Our design team worked closely with their
engineers to implement the file encryption which strengthens the
security of our products. FairCom delivered quality service and
product throughout the design process to our implementation. They
have many years of providing innovative, dependable solutions to the
commercial software community, and it shows." The new FairCom
Macintosh Server also includes advanced mirrored file features,
specifically, the FairCom Server will now accommodate re-acquisition
of a lost, mirrored start file. Mirrored files are automatically
copied during a rebuild, automatic recovery and dynamic dump restore.

Thus, even if a mirrored copy fails, the rebuild will continue. The
new FairCom Servers also offer a powerful conditional index support
feature that allows indices to be defined at the data content level
rather than at just the field level. Dynamic index (select/omit)
filtering can be performed on c-tree Plus index files by using a
powerful expression parser/analyzer. This provides smaller, faster
indices that meet the developers specific data content level needs.
FairCom's Macintosh Servers also allow simultaneous communication
using both TCP/IP and AppleTalk protocols and client libraries. Thus,
a Macintosh application could be interacting with both a local server
on an AppleTalk network and out onto the Internet to a server running
on Unix or Windows NT. Also, unlike many other servers, with
FairCom's Macintosh Server an application can open connections to
many FairCom Servers at one time. Each connection has its own
security and file contexts.

This version of the FairCom Server includes new support for the
following platforms: FreeBSD Unix, SCO UnixWare and SGI IRIX.
FairCom's Mactintosh Server supports multiple communication
protocols, including ADSP; SPX, NetBIOS and TCP/IP. FairCom created
Access Manager for Digital Research in 1979 and released its first
true application development tool, the original c-tree file handler,
that same year. Today c-tree Plus is running in over 100 CPU/OS
environments in more than 98 countries worldwide. FairCom Server
technology is utilized by such noted organizations as: McGraw-Hill,
Federal Express and General Foods Corporation. Companies like
Computer Associates and Sharp Corporation have embedded FairComs
c-tree within vertical market products and licensed FairCom Server
technology for OEM uses. FairCom has provided Macintosh support for
nearly twenty years, and currently has a Mac OS X "Rhapsody" under
development.

The FairCom Macintosh Servers retail from $445 to $6,795, depending
upon the number of users. They are licensed on a per server machine
basis. OEM distribution and source are available. c-tree Plus is
priced at $895 with full C source code, no royalties, 26+ free
development Servers, Development ODBC Drivers. Full support for over
25 platforms from Windows to Mac is included with each c-tree Plus
package. For further information, contact FairCom at
