METROWERKS SHIPPING CODEWARRIOR LATITUDE DR2
New Edition Makes It Easy to Build Native Applications for the Rhapsody
Operating System from Existing Mac OS Applications
AUSTIN, Texas - October 27, 1997 - Metrowerks Inc. (NASDAQ: MTWKF,
TSE/ME:MWK) announces the release of CodeWarrior Latitude DR2 ("Developer
Release" 2). With CodeWarrior Latitude DR2, programmers can easily port
their Mac OS applications to the Rhapsody operating system, creating new
native Rhapsody applications. Mac programmers who have received the early
version of Rhapsody, shipped by Apple to software developers earlier this
month, can start creating native Rhapsody applications right away by using
CodeWarrior Latitude DR2.
"Historically, we have made it our business to get the software tools for
developing a new technology into the hands of product developers as quickly
as possible," said Greg Galanos, president and chief technology officer,
Metrowerks. "When Apple introduced the PowerMac, we were there with
CodeWarrior software development tools. Now, with Apple's introduction of
Rhapsody, the next generation operating system, we are here with tools for
programmers that will bring native Rhapsody applications to market
quickly."
CodeWarrior Latitude DR2 includes a set of shared libraries that perform
the functions of the Macintosh API. In most cases, only small
modifications are required to the Mac OS source code, which programmers
then recompile and link with the CodeWarrior Latitude libraries to produce
a new native Rhapsody application. CodeWarrior Latitude DR2 not only allows
users to build native applications for Rhapsody, but also for the Sun
Microsystems Solaris 2.3+ and Silicon Graphics IRIX 5.2+ UNIX-hosted
operating systems.
