Pacific Coast's BeyondRealms

BEYONDREALMS' PROVIDES PAGE LEVEL PASSWORD PROTECTION, DYNAMIC HTML
SECURITY AND CACHING FOR WEB SERVERS

Pacific Coast Software introduces a new product that improves the
performance and functionality of any Macintosh or Windows Web server

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. (January 7, 1997) - Pacific Coast Software introduces a
new product to their catalog of utilities for Webmasters and Web servers.
BeyondRealms is a Web server CGI that wraps many important functions
required by all Webmasters into a single easy-to-use package. As the name
suggests, BeyondRealms augments the built-in security features of many Web
servers with page level user/group password protection. In addition, all
pages processed by the application can include instructions for dynamically
building the HTML text and then caching the template for for future use.
For example, you can easily provide a password protected product price list
that decides whether to show retail or wholesale prices based upon the user
viewing the page.

BeyondRealms creates a secure platform independent database of users and
groups. This allows the administrator to remotely create new users and
groups without accessing the server directly. All administration is
performed via the Web. In addition, the database can easily handle tens of
thousands, or more, users without significantly affecting performance.
Rather than relying on a text match in the file path, or general folder
level protection, BeyondRealms provides unique protection for just the
files you want protected. No need to worry about accidentally excluding
pages you want visible to everyone at your site. This also means you can
rearrange pages on your site without accidentally losing password
protection.

In the same way that you specify password protection for a page, you may
include commands in the HTML that directs BeyondRealms to hide or show
portions of text, or include standard variables, in a page before it is
returned to the person viewing the page. This sort of dynamic page creation
not only energizes your Web site, but personalizes it to specific groups.
The increased security also means that you can easily integrate products
like SiteEdit Pro into your pages so that a link that allows you to quickly
edit a page appears when viewed from a particular IP address.

When pages are read by BeyondRealms you have the option to cache the
template in RAM so that the next time it is requested it doesn't have to be
read from disk. This can significantly improve the overall performance of
your server. In order to maximize the positive effects of BeyondRealms you
can can have it process most or all of your Web pages.

FEATURES
* Provides increased security and performance
* Extremely fast and flexible password protection
* Protected pages may be moved without affecting security
* Selectively hide or show portions of HTML
* Dynamically insert standard variables like the current date on pages
* Efficiently integrate other applications like SiteEdit Pro on pages
* Runs on both Windows and Macintosh Web servers
* One application does it all!

BeyondRealms is based on the next generation technology found in Pacific
Coast Software's WebCatalog and WebCommerce Solution products. The
application may be installed as a standard CGI on both platforms and as a
WebSTAR compatible plug-in on Macintosh. BeyondRealms is $295 for either
platform. Special pricing is available when purchased in a bundle with
SiteEdit Pro. You may purchase all of Pacific Coast's products from their
Web site at http://www.pacific-coast.com or by calling 619/675-1106.

Purity Software Announces WebSentinel - A Powerful New Web Security Tool

(Austin, TX - January 7th, 1997) Purity Software, Inc. adds more fuel to
the fire today announcing WebSentinel, a hot new web server security
add-on, at the MacWorld Expo '97 in San Francisco, CA. In answer to Mac
WebMasters' request for a full featured security tool that can handle large
sets of users easily, WebSentinel raises the standard a few notches.
Utilizing Purity's Verona database engine, WebSentinel can support 10,000
users out of the box.

Intuitive Interface
- Manage your web site security the Macintosh way! WebSentinel Admin, the
tool that allows WebMasters to easily manage their users and security
settings, was designed with drag and drop support from the ground up for
an intuitive and familiar Macintosh interface.
- Adding one or more users to a group or security realm is as simple as
dragging and dropping, similar to navigating the Users and Groups control
panel.
- Since WebSentinel supports Finder-style labels, you can sort and organize
your users for maximum efficiency. For large sets of users, a helpful
Find command will enable you to easily locate any user.

Powerful Security
- WebSentinel realms may contain either simple WebSTAR-style match strings
or complex GREP expressions for the ultimate flexibility in defining
security for your site.
- Each realm has its own set of users, stored in a single or multiple
databases - even on different machines if needed.
- Custom "No Access" HTML page can be set for each realm.
- User caching allows authentication for a security realm to be processed
wicked-fast, even when users are stored in a slow or remote database
server.

Manage Users Anywhere
- Web administrators who need to support larger user sets have the ability
to define different database targets in which to store user information.
WebSentinel will ship with support for Verona by Purity Software, Butler
SQL by Everyware, and delimited text files, as well as access to the
Users and Groups control panel and the web server's built-in realms
settings. This flexibility allows WebMasters currently using other
methods for their web site security to easily migrate to WebSentinel.
- WebSentinel utilizes a plug-in interface for database targets, so
third-party developers may add targets for their own applications. The
API necessary to create target plug-ins is provided free of charge to any
interested parties.

System Requirements and Compatibility
- WebSentinel requires an Apple Macintosh or compatible computer running
System 7.5 or higher, 1MB RAM for the Admin application, and a Macintosh
web server that supports the W*API version 1.1 such as WebSTAR v1.3.2 or
v2.0 by StarNine Technologies, a division of Quarterdeck or Quid Pro Quo
v1.0 by Chris Hawk.

Pricing and Availability
- WebSentinel has a MSRP of $99.95. Educational institutions qualify for a
15% discount on total package price. Further details on purchasing
WebSentinel are available on Purity's web site at (http://www.purity.com/).

Web Server 4D 1.0.6 For Mac/Windows Announced

Mac Web Server compatible with Windows 95/NT, adds impressive new features.

Bartlett, IL: -- January 6, 1997 -- MDG has just announced Web Server 4D
1.0.6 for Macintosh and Windows 95/NT. Version 1.0.6 will ship by February
14, 1997 and will be released for Macintosh and Windows simultaneously.
Besides Windows compatibility, this version will continue to add many new
features, including: NetCloak(tm) Commands support, Virtual Hosting, Force
Frames from External Links, and WS4D version notifier.

Supports Windows 95/NT

"The Windows version of Web Server 4D is 100% the same code as our stable
Macintosh version which has been improved dramatically over the last 14
months. We have great news for all existing Macintosh Web Server 4D
customers, you are entitled to the Windows version for free!" explained
Michael Ginsberg, the President of MDG Computer Services, Inc.

NetCloak Commands Supported

"NetCloak by Maxum is an add-on product that offers very useful commands
which are executed on your server at the time your document is sent to the
client, allowing you to create dynamic, conditional HTML pages. We are
adding this support without the need to purchase NetCloak. Once again, Web
Server 4D adds the features that makes your web site dynamic.", said
Ginsberg.

Virtual Hosting

"Web Server 4D has always had the ability to delivery different pages for
different hosts, with Virtual Hosting, we will make it much easier to many
complete sites from one IP Address." said Ginsberg.

Force Frames From External Links

"We have noticed a problem when users jump to a site that is frames based
)from a search engine, they will never see the frames at that site. This can
create many problems. Web Server 4D 1.0.6 will contain a new feature that
will ensure your frames based pages will be viewed in their entirety, no
matter what location clients arrive from.", claimed Ginsberg.

WS4D Version Update Notifier

"The development on the Macintosh version has been very aggressive and now
that we have one code base for both Macintosh and Windows, we have added a
new feature to notify registered users as soon as new releases are
available for download. Every night, the copy of Web Server 4D that is
running at your site will optionally check in with the MDG site to see if a
new version is available for download. A flashing message on the server or
an Email will automatically be sent to you, no need to register your
software, Web Server 4D will do it for you!", said Ginsberg.
