Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 5.0
Bedford, MA--November 6, 1998--Bare Bones Software, Inc. today announced
the release of version 5.0 of their flagship product: BBEdit, the leading
text and HTML editing tool for the Mac OS(tm).
This release is a significant upgrade that enhances the product at many
levels. BBEdit 5.0 features a completely redesigned suite of HTML markup
tools, as well as new additions to the core editing capabilities, and
refinements of the existing feature set that has long defined this
industry-leading product.
Featured among the new tools are the new context-sensitive Tag Maker, and
its complement, the Edit Tag command. These two commands speed the creation
and editing of HTML documents by providing markup options that are valid in
the current working context. The new HTML markup tools in BBEdit 5.0 are
supported by an underlying SGML parser, which provides the foundation for
an improved HTML syntax checker.
"This new release represents the next stage in the evolution of the
product," said Rich Siegel, president and CEO. "We are pleased to be able
to supply our current customers, and all HTML authors, with such a strong
platform that can grow with their needs."
BBEdit 5.0 is more flexible and customizable than previous releases. It
incorporates a new "Set Menu Keys" command, which provides users with the
means to configure keyboard equivalents for the standard BBEdit menu items.
In addition, OSA scripts may be organized to the user's taste, and can be
invoked easily via a new floating window, with configurable keyboard
equivalents.
The BBEdit glossary has also been enhanced, and is now ideally suited for
constructing customized HTML markup sequences and inserting them into
documents with a single keystroke.
BBEdit's renowned multi-file searching has been enhanced, to allow users to
filter files by Finder label before searching them, and present a list of
files processed during a multi-file replace operation. A new "Exclude
Matches" option is provided, so that users can easily identify files that
do not contain any occurrences of the specified search text.
Finally, BBEdit 5.0 includes support for syntax coloring and function
navigation in files containing JavaScript source code, improved syntax
coloring and function navigation in Perl source files, and integration of
the HTML markup tools with the Cumulus(r) Media Management System (tm), a
product of Canto Software (http://www.canto.com).
