Apple Announces Fourth Annual Design Awards for Mac OS Software

New Power Macintosh G3 is Top Prize in Software Innovation, User
Experience, Adoption of Apple Technologies and Best New Product
Categories

CUPERTINO, California--April 7, 1999--Apple Computer, Inc. today
announced its fourth annual software design contest for Mac OS
developers, the Apple Design Awards. The awards celebrate the
creativity of the Mac OS developer community and recognize superior
software in the areas of innovation, user experience, and adoption of
Apple technologies. With iMac and new Power Macintosh G3 computers
inspiring developers to release new Macintosh software, this year
Apple has also added an award for best new product. Winners in each
category will receive a top of the line Power Macintosh G3 with Apple
Studio Display.

The Apple Design Award winners will be announced during Apple's
Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on May 12, 1999 and the
deadline for entries is May 1. WWDC takes place May 10-14 in San
Jose, California. More information on the conference is available on
Apple's web site (www.apple.com/developer/wwdc99/).

"Since last year's WWDC, software developers have responded to
Apple's new products with a deluge of outstanding Mac software," said
Clent Richardson, vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations at
Apple. "The Apple Design Awards recognize the remarkable
accomplishments of Mac developers over the last year and demonstrate
that Macintosh is once again a platform where software companies can
truly innovate and prosper."

Apple Design Award winners and one runner-up will be selected in the
following categories:

Best New Product
Most Innovative
Best Macintosh User Experience
Best Apple Technology Adoption

In addition to a Power Macintosh G3 and Apple Studio Display, winners
will also receive a trophy and the right to use the winning entry
logo on packaging and manuals. Runners-up will receive a plaque as
well as the right to use the runner-up logo on product packaging and
manuals.

The following Mac OS developers received awards last year: Most
Innovative Winner: Flash 2, Macromedia, Inc. Runner-up: Legacy of
Time: The Journeyman Project 3, Presto Studios Runner-up: Office 98
Macintosh Edition, Microsoft Corporation

Best Look & Feel

Winner: Preflight Pro 1.0, Extensis Corporation Runner-up: PlusMaker
1.0.1, Alsoft, Inc. Runner-up: Virtual PC 2.0, Connectix Corporation

Best Apple Technology Adoption

Winner: Stuffit Deluxe 4.5, Aladdin Systems, Inc. Runner-up:
PowerMail 2.0, CTM Development
Runner-up: FaceSpan 3.0, Digital Technology International

Official Apple Design Award contest rules and entry forms are
available on Apple's web site (www.apple.com/comdesignaward). This
contest is open to most forms of software developed for the Mac OS.
Eligible software must have been made available to end-user customers
no later than April 1, 1999.
