HARRISVILLE, RI -- June 26, 2000 -- With hundreds of business Websites
popping up daily, ever wonder who's creating all these sites? Who's behind
the Internet design, development and production scenes, paving the way of
the information highway?

The recently published TrendWatch report, "Internet Design & Development
Winter 2000" (the first in a new series), provides the Web design
industry's first profile by type of shop and it offers a close-up look at
the people who run them and the employees who work there. This first-ever
baseline report provides important demographic information about Web
designers, developers, Webmasters, and major Websites, plus Web
freelancers. This ground-breaking research series will track the growth and
change in these dynamic Web markets.

According to the report, the average Web designer/developer is 30 years
old, has a college education, and was hired right out of college (or
shortly thereafter). Most Web designers/developers cite "incentives" as
important in retaining their employment due to the highly competitive
nature the business.

While other creative markets are experiencing difficulty attracting
qualified employees, this is not the case in the Web design and development
markets. Designers from print and other media are being attracted to the
Web design market each day, plus numerous freelancers and others who meet
cyberspace's growing demands.

This revealing portrait of the Web-design industry-and its young, cyber
partners/employees--was gleaned from personal interviews with nearly 100
interactive (ad) agencies, Web (technical) developers, corporate (in-house)
Webmasters, major Websites (on-line businesses/portals) and Web design
shops and Web freelanceers. Open-ended questions allowed business owners
and managers to provide details about their companies, situations, and
decisions, as well as the types of services they offer, and the business
challenges and opportunities they face, as well as the type of software and
hardware they use.

As the industry's significant first step in developing a comprehensive
picture of the Internet design and production markets, the new TrendWatch
report is a valuable tool for management decision-making in this rapidly
growing and ever-changing business environment.
