The great thing about Poser is that you don't have to have a degree in 3D modeling to create your own 3D content. After starting up the program and getting oriented to the controls I created a very short basic animation within about 20 minutes.
Poser lets you take control of your own virtual stage by placing characters, props and scenery wherever you choose. Lights and cameras are also used to give you control over the content of your stage. Poser 8 is useful whether you are just starting out or looking for more advanced methods of 3D
design.
Poser 8 offers a huge library of content that one could use at their disposal including human models, animals (snakes, sheep, dogs, etc.) props (furniture, swords, etc.) and fantasy characters. These templates can be altered and modified to your exact specification using morphing tools to change the size, expressions and other minute details of your figures.
The content library is easily searchable to aid you in your quest for the perfect subjects. If you can't find what you are looking for in the library and are unsure how to create the content yourself there are sites with a plethora of content you can purchase.
Poser 8 also includes content for animating your characters with certain walks and struts. You can animate the character you created to run, sneak, jog and several other types of movements. You can also animate or pose your subjects to your exact preferences with relatively simple manipulation tools.
The layout and design of tools and pallets are mostly intuitive and user friendly. The palettes are floatable and dockable to allow for user customization. Tabs are also utilized to keeps Poser workspace organized.
Overall, I think that Poser 8 is a very useful piece of software that has applications for people with various interests and end results in mind.
Pros: Tons of content included, Unlimited customization capabilities, Pretty intuitive controls.
Cons: Steep learning curve for some aspects of software, All of the tools can be overwhelming.
