MACROMEDIA ANNOUNCES FREEHAND 10, SUPPORTS MAC OS X

Next Generation Of Design Software Enhances Macromedia Flash Integration

San Francisco, CA -- April 2, 2001 -- Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: MACR) today
announced Macromedia FreeHand 10, which features new creative tools,
productivity enhancements, tight integration with Macromedia Flash(tm) 5,
the Macromedia User Interface, and the ability to multi-publish to both
print and the Web. Upon its release, FreeHand 10 will be available on
Macintosh and Windows platforms, including Mac OS X, Apple's next
generation operating system using the sleek new Aqua interface.

"Macromedia FreeHand 10 is designed to make the lives of graphics
professionals easier and more productive through rich Macromedia Flash
integration, templates, and the ability to intuitively create content that
can be delivered to both print and the Web," said Kevin Lynch, president of
Macromedia products. "In addition, we are committed to developing our
market-leading Web authoring product line for Mac OS X, and happy to offer
FreeHand 10 on this amazing next-generation operating system."

"With features such as an incredible new 'Aqua' user interface and stunning
2-D and 3-D graphics capabilities, Mac OS X is an ideal platform for
creative professionals," said Clent Richardson, Apple's vice president of
Worldwide Developer Relations. "We are thrilled with Macromedia's release
of FreeHand 10, and look forward to seeing more of Macromedia's outstanding
graphics and Web building solutions on Mac OS X."

Graphics professionals use FreeHand 10 to create advanced illustrations,
large print projects, and Web site storyboards. FreeHand 10 offers
increased productivity through an editable symbol library for better asset
management and the ability to select print areas from large projects. The
product also features the customizable Macromedia user interface that is
now standard across its entire Web authoring product line. FreeHand 10 also
introduces Master Page functionality which brings speed and flexibility to
designers who want to use templates to speed authoring of large projects
that share common design elements. Designers will also benefit from
FreeHand 10's free-form contour gradient fill to add drop shadows, beveled
edges, and highlights on objects in an intuitive, natural way, as well as
reusable brush stroke tools.

Web designers will also benefit from the rich integration between FreeHand
10 and Macromedia Flash. The products now share the Macromedia common user
interface to deliver a more seamless authoring experience. The new user
interface also includes some common Macromedia Flash features such as a
Macromedia Flash Navigation Panel for easily applying links or actions.
Now, basic interactivity for Macromedia Flash content can be added from
within FreeHand, and users can also navigate and play back their Macromedia
Flash animations within the FreeHand authoring environment.

"FreeHand 10 is more than just a print or online design tool, it's the
heart and soul of my design studio," said Brad Kozak, chief creative
officer, GrokMedia. "The new Master Pages feature enables efficient
management and updating of large projects, and the new user interface and
tight integration with Macromedia Flash makes working between the two
applications seamless."
