Macromedia Unveils Developer Community Support

MACROMEDIA UNVEILS NEW OFFERINGS, INITIATIVES TO SUPPORT DEVELOPER COMMUNITY

Macromedia Flash Player Now Reaches 96 Percent of Web Browsers

Internet World Fall 2000 -- New York City -- October 25, 2000 --
Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: MACR) today made several announcements showing
its commitment to its developer community. The company announced that more
than a dozen new extensions that will benefit the more than one million
developers that use the Macromedia Dreamweaver platform. The extensions
offer productivity tools and tighten the integration between Macromedia
Flash, Dreamweaver, and Fireworks (see separate release).

"Macromedia is committed to enable professional Web developers to deliver
amazing content," said Kevin Lynch, president of products for Macromedia.
"With the large number of Dreamweaver developers and the ubiquity of
Macromedia Flash, it's a pleasure to work with such an active community of
developers using our products and advancing the vision of what the Web can
be."

The company also announced that the Macromedia Flash Player is now
installed on 96 percent of Web desktops, according to a recent study by NPD
Online Research, the parent company of Media Metrix. This phenomenal
population of Web browsers able to immediately view Macromedia Flash
content ensures developers can deploy content to the largest installed base
of any Web technology and know it can be instantly viewed. Macromedia Flash
is also being used to author animated content for both broadcast television
and the Web (see separate release), and the approachability of the
authoring environment has led new generations of developers to create
Macromedia Flash content (see separate release).

The new Macromedia Flash 5 Generator Studio combines the unique authoring
capabilities of Macromedia Flash 5 with the content delivery power of
Macromedia Generator 2 Developer Edition (see separate release). Macromedia
Flash 5 is the authoring environment for Macromedia Generator, which
separates design from content to increase productivity and reduce the
maintenance time and costs associated with visual, high-impact Web sites.
In addition, Macromedia Generator 2 Enterprise Edition, the only enterprise
solution on the market to deliver real-time, personalized visual Web
content, is being used to deliver scalable, high-impact visual Web
experiences for sites such as Amazing Media, Forbes.com, and Motorola (see
separate release).

Macromedia today also outlined the steps it is taking to enable Web
developers to create sites that are accessible to people with disabilities
(see separate release). The first step in the initiative is the immediate
availability of free downloadable extensions to its Macromedia Dreamweaver
platform to ensure content being created is accessible.
