MACROMEDIA EXCHANGE FOR DREAMWEAVER LAUNCHES

Web site builds community among Macromedia professional Web developers

San Francisco, California -- April 19, 2000 -- Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ:
MACR) today launched the Macromedia Exchange for Dreamweaver, a Web
destination for the over 500,000-strong Macromedia Dreamweaver developer
community. The Macromedia Exchange for Dreamweaver contains over 100 free
downloadable extensions created by developers and third-parties that add
helpful new features such as page reformatting, rich media integration, and
e-commerce functionality to the market-leading Macromedia Dreamweaver. It
also offers information and discussions about extending the functionality
of Dreamweaver. The site is a feature of the recently launched Macromedia
Membership Center, which is a centralized location for customer interests
and information.

Macromedia Dreamweaver is the platform of choice for professional Web site
design and production. Dreamweaver is the only Web authoring product on the
market that can be customized and extended using Web standards such as XML,
HTML, and JavaScript. Every copy of Dreamweaver 3 includes an electronic
version of "Extending Dreamweaver," which contains all of the information
developers need to build new extensions and customize Dreamweaver. This
extensibility has led Web design firms to customize Dreamweaver for
specific job roles within companies, and has enabled Dreamweaver to serve
as a front-end to development solutions from companies such as BroadVision
and Nokia. The combination of robust features and open architecture has
contributed to the market success of Dreamweaver; Dreamweaver accounted for
69 percent of North American sales of professional visual Web development
tools in February, according to PC Data.

Macromedia Exchange for Dreamweaver (http://exchange.macromedia.com) has
more than 100 extensions available on the site, created by Dreamweaver
developers and third parties. Dreamweaver extensions can automate tasks
such as reformatting tables, embedding rich media content, adding
Macromedia Shockwave-based chat rooms to a Web site in minutes, and
connecting with popular e-commerce solutions.

"Macromedia Dreamweaver has become a successful platform for Web authoring
because users and developers have been able to extend it to suit their
individual needs and to keep up with the rapid rate of change on the Web,"
said Kevin Lynch, chief technology officer for Macromedia. "The Macromedia
Exchange will enable the Dreamweaver community to easily obtain and make
use of this proliferation of innovative extensions."

Macromedia Exchange for Dreamweaver is a full-featured community site. The
site enables developers to quickly search for the extensions they want,
participate in discussion threads, receive e-mail updates, and rate and
review the extensions they find. "Macromedia Approved" extensions on the
site are tested by Macromedia to ensure they install correctly and behave
in a manner familiar to Dreamweaver users.

"Developers will benefit greatly from having an area like this where we can
get the latest extensions, or make our own and upload them to the site,"
said Jay Larson, a Web technologist at Wells Fargo Bank. "It will be
interesting to see how leveraging the Dreamweaver developer community will
impact the time in which I can deploy new projects."

Dreamweaver is the market-leading platform for professional Web content
authoring for both Macintosh and Windows. It is a critical component in the
Macromedia Web Content Lifecycle strategy for bringing integrated Web
solutions to the enterprise focused on content authoring, management,
analysis, and personalization. Extensions available on the Macromedia
Exchange for Dreamweaver will deliver the means to link Dreamweaver to
integrated point solutions addressing the Web Content Lifecycle.
