LANDesk Software Demonstrates New Macintosh Technology at WWDC
LANDesk Management Suite adds software license monitoring to its industry
leading software distribution, inventory and remote control support for Mac
OS X
San Francisco-June 23, 2003 LANDesk Software, the leader in integrated
desktop, server and device management software, today announced it is
demonstrating new software license monitoring and management capabilities
for the Apple* Mac* OS X in the Exhibit Fair June 23, 24 and 25 at Apple
Computer's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco. LANDesk
Software plans to make this new technology available as a product update to
the award-winning LANDesk Management Suite solution later this year.
The addition of this new software license management technology comes on
the heels of the recent release of software distribution, expanded
inventory and remote control support for Mac OS X in LANDesk Management
Suite 7-and reinforces LANDesk Software's commitment and leadership in
supporting heterogeneous environments.
With LANDesk Management Suite, IT administrators can manage their PC
machines and Macintosh computers from the same LANDesk Management Suite
console. Mac systems appear in the network view and can be included in
software distribution, inventory reporting, remote control, and now
software license monitoring.
Software License Monitoring Benefits
* LANDesk Software License Monitoring for Mac OS X and application software
furthers an IT organization's ability to reduce software purchase costs
while enabling compliance with software license requirements. Many
companies purchase more software than they really need, because of
compliance and legal concerns.
* LANDesk Software License Monitoring helps IT organizations control costs
by tracking how many copies of an application are installed in an
enterprise. Software usage information shows which of theses applications
are actually being used and how often, enabling IT organizations to reclaim
unused licenses, and reallocate them to other departments. Software License
Monitoring also identifies software licenses that may not need to be
renewed.
* LANDesk Software License Monitoring also provides the ability to deny
unauthorized applications from running, even when a machine is disconnected
from the network via a resident agent, as well as sophisticated reporting
with audit, execution and usage trend reports.
"LANDesk Software is the only company offering this level of management for
Macintosh computers in a networked environment," said Mike Hall, vice
president of marketing for LANDesk Software. "Our customers and partners
continue to request Macintosh support, and tell us how much this kind of
management saves them in time and quantifiable costs. Macintosh continues
to be a strategic platform. Our decision to support Apple has helped us win
new business."
LANDesk Management Suite makes all of these benefits and capabilities
available from a single console. LANDesk Software enables businesses to
automate lifecycle management of desktop and personal computing
devices-from procurement to deployment, through maintenance and retirement.
In addition to Macintosh support, LANDesk also supports Microsoft* Windows*
and Windows XP*, Linux*, and Unix* in heterogeneous environments.
"Organizations need an efficient way to keep desktops and devices
up-to-date with the latest security patches and fixes," said Denny Cannon,
PC integration specialist for Farm Credit Services of America. "We have
used LANDesk Management Suite to quickly and cost effectively deploy
patches where they are needed across our business. However, this new patch
management product will add a greater level of automation through
assessment features and filtered prioritization, which will keep our
desktops and devices safer through persistent state management as well as
offering increased time and cost savings to our organization."
