INTEGO ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF TWO ENCRYPTION PROGRAMS AND ONE BACKUP PROGRAM
Miami, FL, April 5, 2001 - Intego, the leading developer of Macintosh Internet security and privacy software, today announced the acquisition of three Macintosh security products from Highware Inc. Intego will be adding two encryption programs, Intego DiskGuard and Intego FileGuard, and one backup program, Intego Personal Backup, to its catalogue. More than one million units of these programs have been sold around the world, and Intego's acquisition will provide an essential addition to its current product line.
Intego DiskGuard protects all SCSI and IDE hard disks, Zip and Jaz cartridges, and floppy disks from unauthorized access, both on individual computers and across a network. Its permanent security means that no one can access the disk's data without the correct password. At this time, when computers running Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X are started up from CD-Roms, or used as non-startup disks for other computers, they bypass built-in disk protection, but DiskGuard provides an additional, inviolable level of protection, preventing all unauthorized access.
Several high-profile laptop thefts from government officials and key executives in recent months have highlighted the fact that thieves can easily access data on unprotected laptop computers. A recent study reported that more than 320,000 laptops were stolen in the U.S. last year. DiskGuard protects both desktop and portable computers, providing total security from physical attempts to obtain data.
Intego FileGuard provides complete user access management for file, folder, disk and application protection on individual computers and over a network. A full range of functions allows computer owners to share their computers in total security. FileGuard protects access to a computer with a password at start-up, which cannot be bypassed, and any number of users can each be given unique privileges. FileGuard protects files, folders, disks and applications, encrypts files, keeps a detailed log of all user activity, and limits user access to time periods you choose.
Its network functions allow an administrator to install, configure and even update FileGuard on all computers connected to a network or the Internet from a single workstation.
Both these programs use the unbreakable military-strength encryption protocols TripleDES and IDEA.
Intego Personal Backup provides a full range of backup functions. It works in the background, running backup scripts at pre-determined times, so users don't need to worry about remembering to back up their data. Full backups can be run, incremental backups can back up only new and recently-changed files, and files can be synchronized between two computers, such as a desktop computer and a PowerBook or iBook. Personal Backup can save a backup log, create exception lists and run multi-generational backups, saving several versions of files so users can even access previous versions of files they have changed. It also records keystrokes, so, even if a computer crashes, and the user has not saved his or her work, the data can be recuperated.
"Intego is the only publisher to offer such a complete range of Internet security and privacy software," says Laurent Marteau, CEO, Intego. "Our Barrier product line protects users from Internet and network attacks, and the Guard product line protects their privacy from physical attempts to access data. Now, Mac users have a full security solution to protect their data everywhere and all the time. We're very pleased to offer these essential products to our customers."
