FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited Now Available

FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited Now Available from FileMaker,
Inc.

Latest version delivers "industrial-strength" Web database
publishing; improved Instant Web Publishing Fidelity; Web development
tools; and support for the new Mac OS X Server and Red Hat Linux
7.1

SANTA CLARA, CA - Nov. 5, 2001 - FileMaker, Inc. announced
the immediate availability of FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited (Worldwide
English version). With FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited, estimated retail
price of $999 ($499 for upgrades), Web database publishing has never
been easier -- or more powerful.

FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited offers the same powerful database
features found in FileMaker Pro 5.5, including two-way ODBC
capabilities, record-level access privileges and more.  However,
in contrast to FileMaker Pro 5.5, it sets no limits to the number of
Web Browsers that can access a FileMaker Pro database published on the
Web.

In addition, the new version also has two improved powerful Web
database-publishing options:  FileMaker Pro Web Companion for
publishing databases instantly to an intranet or the Internet, and the
Java-based FileMaker Web Server Connector for improved performance,
load balancing and data security via IIS 5 and Apache Web Servers.
Using multiple copies of FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited and the FileMaker
Web Server Connector, users can create a "redundant array of
inexpensive computers" (RAIC) that provides scalable load balancing
and fail-over fault tolerance for greater data availability.
FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited can also be used with middleware, CGIs,
and application servers to build large-scale customized Web
solutions.

For example, data from FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited can be
dynamically served to Java Server Pages (JSP) authored in Macromedia
Dreamweaver UltraDev 4 (go to (a

)http://www.filemaker.com/downloads/pdf/FMPU55_UltraDev.PDF(/a) for
complete details).

FileMaker Pro 5 Unlimited was chosen Best Numeric/Database
Software and awarded the prestigious Codie Award by the Software &
Information Industry Association (SIIA) last March over IBM DB2 and
three other finalists.

"FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited solves the problem of sharing
important information for both traditional and virtual workgroups
across the enterprise," said FileMaker, Inc. president Dominique
Goupil. "With built-in record-by-record access level privileges
and SSL Web Server support, FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited also meets the
requirements of IT management."

New Features and Enhancements in FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited

Improved FileMaker Web Server Connector (FMWSC)

=D8      The new FileMaker Web Server
Connector features improved load-balancing algorithms for greater
stability and performance over the Web.

New web publishing breakthroughs

=D8      Groups of knowledge workers can
now create a new Custom Workgroup Portal by simply using an existing
FileMaker Pro database (no need for HTML coding to design a Portal
layout!). The databases listed within the Custom Workgroup Portal are
dynamically generated by scanning a local server, indicating which
databases are open and available for sharing.

=D8      FileMaker's industry leading
Instant Web Publishing raises the bar even further for greater Layout
Fidelity on the Web: Table Views, Sort and Search Views now match the
FileMaker Pro client user interface.

=D8      The standard FileMaker Web
navigation controls can now be suppressed, allowing developers to
specify their own Web based controls using new and expanded scripting
support for more than 20 script steps, ultimately providing better
navigation control for browsers.

=D8      The Web browser experience is
further heightened and enhanced when active objects, such as buttons
within a FileMaker web database, are now highlighted as the mouse
cursor passes over them.

=D8      Complete relational value lists
are now supported through Custom Web Publishing.

Expanded Web Developer Documentation and Resources

FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited now includes the following content
and documentation using by Web Developers for custom Web publishing
FileMaker Pro databases:

=D8      CDML Reference DB
=D8      CDML Tool DB
=D8      CDML Example
=D8      JDBC Driver
=D8      Java Script Documentation
=D8      CSS Documentation
=D8      XML Documentation
=D8      XSL Documentation

New OS support

=D8      FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited is
now certified for Apache Web Servers running Red Hat Linux 7.1 and the
powerful new Mac OS X Server. The new version is also certified for
IIS 5 on Windows 2000 Server.

Tighter Web Security

=D8      Developers can restrict access
to the data based on user name, computer user or even the time of the
day over the network and over the Web!
=D8      The FileMaker Web Server
Connector leverages powerful web server features and benefits such as
SSL.
