Evergreen FireWire CDRW Drive

Evergreen Adds IEEE 1394 CDRW Drive to fireLINE Family Lineup;
PC and Mac Users Can Produce Multimedia CDs in Minutes,
Using Portable, External CDRW Drive

CORVALLIS, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 2000--Evergreen
Technologies, Inc., a leader in PC performance upgrades since 1989,
today added a fifth product--the IEEE 1394 CDRW Drive--to its new
fireLINE(TM) product family.
(Evergreen's fireLINE products are developed using the new IEEE
1394 -- or FireWire(TM) -- high-speed data communication standard.)
Evergreen's portable, external CDRW drive enables PC and Mac users to
produce their own multimedia CDs in minutes, using the drive's write,
read, erase and rewrite capabilities. It is "hot-swappable"-- meaning
it can be plugged into a system which is already running-- and
performs all the functions of a CD-ROM drive, CD-R and audio CD
player. The fireLINE CDRW is compact (L 10", W 6", H 2"), and connects
instantly into any industry standard IEEE 1394 port-- such as
Evergreen's fireLINE PCI Card or fireLINE CardBus/PCMCIA Card.
"We are committed to expanding our fireLINE family of products
with versatile, easy to use, plug-n-play peripherals equipped with
IEEE 1394 capabilities," said Mike Magee, president and CEO of
Evergreen Technologies, Inc. "Not only does our new fireLINE CDRW
drive provide powerful data storage and backup options, it also allows
customers to create their own personal production studio using the
hot-swap and daisy-chain features of IEEE 1394 to connect to a variety
of multimedia devices simultaneously."
With its rewrite capability, Evergreen's fireLINE CDRW drive is
the ideal solution for general data storage or daily backups, whenever
data is frequently updated. The drive is accompanied by all the
necessary software to create CDs.
"With FireWire, or IEEE 1394, becoming a popular open standard for
high speed data transfer, there will be an increasing number of
peripherals developed which use the interface--especially since
Microsoft recently threw its weight behind the standard," said Kevin
Knox, research director at GartnerGroup. The fireLINE CDRW drive is on
this cutting edge.

Evergreen's fireLINE IEEE 1394 CDRW Drive -- Pricing, Availability
and Specifications:

With initial shipments expected early in July, the $399.99 (street
price) fireLINE IEEE 1394 CDRW drive package comes with a 6-to-6 pin
IEEE 1394 interface cable, an illustrated installation guide and a one
year warranty. To facilitate CD production, Evergreen also includes
Head's popular Nero software and one piece of blank CDRW media.
"Plug-n-play" and "hot swapping" (features of IEEE 1394 technology)
enable the CDRW drive to connect with up to 63 different IEEE 1394
devices simultaneously. Built-in operating system support for IEEE
1394 peripherals is provided in Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows
2000 and Mac OS 8.6 or higher. For installation, the fireLINE CDRW
requires only that the PC or Mac have an available industry standard
IEEE 1394 connection. (If not, the user can purchase an affordable
interface card from Evergreen, discussed below.)
Initial fireLINE Family Members: PCI & CardBus/PCMCIA Interface
Cards, External HotDrive: Evergreen's $99 fireLINE PCI Card enables
users to connect existing desktops (which do not have the IEEE 1394
connection built in) to IEEE 1394 peripherals, while Evergreen's $149
fireLINE CardBus/PCMCIA Card does the same for portables. Evergreen
also offers an IEEE 1394/USB PCI ComboCard, which gives existing
desktops the ability to connect to peripherals using either the IEEE
1394 interface or the USB interface. Evergreen's fireLINE interface
cards are designed for use in either a PC (Windows 98SE and later) or
Mac (Mac OS 8.6 or greater) environment.
Evergreen's $499 fireLINE External HotDrive has a 20 gigabyte
capacity and is ideal for backing up and transferring dense amounts of
data between systems very quickly. It incorporates the high-speed IEEE
1394 interface, which supports hot swapping and plug-n-play for
effortless installation and portability between systems. It functions
with Windows 98 Second Edition and later, Mac OS 8.6 or greater for
iMacDV as well as PowerMacs with existing 1394 ports. Consequently,
the HotDrive is also an excellent vehicle to transport large files
between the PC and Macintosh environments.
