DEVONTHINK, DEVONAGENT AND DEVONNOTE READY FOR "TIGER"
Coeur d'Alene (Idaho, USA), 27th of April, 2005 -- DEVONtechnologies LLC
updates all three of its main applications, DEVONthink, DEVONagent and
DEVONnote, makes them compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" and adds many
productivity enhancements.
On Tiger, DEVONthink Personal Edition 1.9.3 fully supports the brand-new
PDFKit for displaying PDF documents as single or facing pages, with
continous scrolling, all zooming functions and highlighting of search
results. The PDFKit is also used for extracting text from PDF, PostScript
or EPS documents and for converting them to rich text. Additionally,
DEVONthink uses Tiger or QuickTime 7 to import JPEG2000, Adobe DNG, OpenEXR
and raw images. Rich text documents on Tiger feature tables, flexible
paragraph spacing and many more advanced editing capabilities.
Besides making DEVONthink ready for Tiger, many more new improvements have
been added. By using the new WebKit present on Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later,
DEVONthink archives complete web pages including all images necessary for
offline viewing as so called web archives. A new Finder-like icon view can
optionally show details for each document, the search window features all
zoom and navigation commands like any other view, PDFs and images can be
scrolled by dragging them around ("Hand Tool") and the Mac OS X Services
sub-menu has been added to the contextual menus within DEVONthink.
Searching has been sped up by a factor of ten, damaged rich text documents
are repaired on-the-fly and backups can be created also hourly using a new
scheduler.
DEVONagent 1.7 captures web pages also as web archives directly to a
DEVONthink database, displays PDF files without the need for a plug-in
(requires Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger"), marks unread results like Apple Mail and
uses flexible stylesheets for displaying newsfeeds. Web pages can also be
stored as web archives in the file system. The Mac OS X Services sub-menu
has been added to the contextual menus, a plug-in for the "Coalition of
Journalist of Open Government" is included and a few older plug-ins have
been overhauled. DEVONagent 1.7 can now also be used as a default
application for many HTML, image, text and web location files as well as
web archives. A new sample script sends displayed web pages as web archive
via e-mail and auto-completion in the URL field of the integrated web
browser makes web surfing with DEVONagent more comfortable. Also, the
compatibility to web sites blocking bots has been improved.
Finally, DEVONnote comes with enhanced web browsing capabilities, comes
with all the new text editing capabilities including tables in rich text
documents and searches the database faster than ever. New notes can be
immediately created in a predefined group without manually moving them and
allows to open groups and documents in a new window when double-clicking
them. DEVONnote inherited many minor productivity enhancements from
DEVONthink, too.
DEVONthink Personal Edition 1.9.3 and DEVONagent 1.7 require Mac OS X
10.3.9 or Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger", DEVONnote requires Mac OS X 10.2.7 or
later. A fast Internet connection is strongly recommended for DEVONagent.
All three applications are immediately available as free evaluation
versions from www.devon-technologies.com. DEVONthink Personal Edition must
be purchased in DEVONtechnologies' online shop for US$ 40, DEVONagent for
US$ 35 and DEVONnote for US$ 20 after the evaluation period. The updates
are free for all registered users. DEVONthink and DEVONagent are also
available as "Infoworker's Bundle" for US$ 65.

BACKGROUND: DEVONAGENT
DEVONagent overcomes all the shortcomings that make Google & Co. such a
pain for serious research. More than 50 plug-ins for search engines,
scientific databases and research tools, predefined search sets you can use
right away and a clean, easy to use user interface make DEVONagent the #1
tool for finding information on the web for the Mac.
DEVONagent is much more than just an interface for web search engines. It
helps you
- searching,
- collecting and
- organizing
information with a powerful and flexible search architecture, a simple to
use built-in archive and perfect integration with DEVONthink. DEVONagent
creates perfectly tailored summaries, acts as a fast and lean web browser,
supports news feeds like RSS and shows all items of interest in a separate
drawer. It can't be easier to look for information on the web.
Key features:
- Collects, analyzes weights and summarizes search results from all major
Internet search engines. Eliminates junk, similar, archived or error pages
on-the-fly and looks for specific types of data, e.g. webcams, multimedia
files, downloadable archives, e-mail addresses or links on demand.
- A scheduler allows to run predefined queries completely unattended and to
execute a series of actions like archive in DEVONagent or DEVONthink, send
an e-mail or speak a text.
- The integrated web browser based on the Safari engine is especially
tailored at the needs of web researchers. Access all your Camino, Firefox,
OmniWeb and Safari bookmarks, filter out e-mail addresses, images or linked
files with just one click and compare the results of a search run using A.I.

integrated web browser converts such feeds on-the-fly to HTML and presents
them similar to Safari 2.0.

dynamically assembled to selected topics. Found search words are
automatically highlighted and texts summarized. An easy-to-use but powerful
web page archive allows you to organize and search stored pages.

that allows to query a great variety of search engines and write new
plug-ins at ease. Also, DEVONagent automatically scans your favorite web
pages for news and follows promising links.
