Developer Support for Adobe InDesign 1.5 Accelerates
Market Momentum for InDesign 1.5 Increases as ISVs Deliver Supporting Products

San Jose, Calif. (March 13, 2000) (Nasdaq:ADBE)-Taking advantage of the
open development environment and accelerating market momentum of Adobe
InDesign software, Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced broad-based
support from leading vendors in the professional publishing field who have
committed to deliver complementary add-on solutions designed to extend the
product's functionality. InDesign 1.5, the latest version of Adobe's
professional page layout and design program, is based on an open,
object-oriented architecture that enables Adobe, third-party developers and
system integrators to create solutions and add services faster and more
simply than previously possible. (For product details, please see the
related Adobe InDesign 1.5 product announcement made today.)

"When InDesign was introduced last year, we forecasted that it would
radically change how publishing is done," said Susan Prescott, senior
director of professional publishing products, Adobe Systems. "With the help
of our partners, we've seen that prediction come true as the professional
publishing market adopts solutions based on InDesign in increasing numbers.
InDesign is clearly evolving into a new standard for professional
publishing."

Broad-based Industry Support
Since InDesign 1.0 was launched in September 1999, hundreds of ISVs have
announced supporting products. The new version of InDesign has continued to
garner industry-wide support, new developers for InDesign 1.5 include: *
alap - alap's ShadowCaster is plug-in software for InDesign that adds an
easy, one-step way to create real soft-shadows.
* Em Software - Em Software's InData and InCatalog are data and cataloging
tools for typographic and picture publishing.
* Enfocus - Enfocus PDF CheckUp speeds production processes by generating
PDFs of InDesign documents according to a predefined profile, preflighting
the PDF and letting users preview the PDFs on export.
* Gluon - Gluon's Cropster sets up on-page crop marks for bleed, trim,
safety, custom folds and page gutters.
* PageFlex - PageFlex Mpower lets users export flexible InDesign templates
into Mpower and Persona, which can be used to create customized documents
on demand.
* PowrTools - PowrTable allows users to set up tables from within
InDesign, rather than having to export them from another application.
* Virginia Systems - Sonar Bookends InDex/TOC accelerates and simplifies
indexing and table of contents creation.

What ISVs Are Saying
alap
"We continue to be excited about developing for InDesign, and to be
assisting Adobe in growing the InDesign user base through our development
efforts," said Paul Schmitt, president of alap, Inc. "Adobe InDesign
software's open platform and object-oriented architecture enable us to
continue our tradition of providing users with the tools they need to get
the job done."

Enfocus
"We are pleased to continue our relationship with Adobe," said Peter Camps,
CEO of Enfocus Software. "By adding Enfocus PDF Check-up to Adobe InDesign
1.5, publishers can significantly enhance their ability to create and
preflight PDF documents. Working together, we have been able to respond to
market needs, extending the capabilities of InDesign and ultimately
benefiting the professional publisher."

Virginia Systems, Inc.
"Virginia Systems' continuing commitment to InDesign is based on the power
and extensibility of InDesign," said Philip Van Cleave, president of
Virginia Systems. "Sonar Bookends InDex is the most highly integrated index
generator we have developed to date. When combined with the layout and
design power of Adobe InDesign 1.5, it can reduce the time it takes to
create an index from hours to minutes."

Adobe Announces New Version of InDesign
Adobe Solidifies Commitment to Professional Publishing

San Jose, Calif., (March 13, 2000) (Nasdaq:ADBE)-Adobe Systems Incorporated
today introduced a new version of its Adobe InDesign page layout and
design application for publishing professionals. Expected to ship next
month, Adobe InDesign 1.5 software includes 70 new features that further
extend its capabilities for professional page layout. These include further
integration with Adobe's other award-winning design products, new design
tools, and productivity enhancements that make it easier to meet demanding
deadlines. With the addition of Adobe PressReady, InProduction and
InCopy software to the professional publishing platform, Adobe solidifies
its commitment to the professional publishing market.

"At Adobe, we constantly listen to our customers and we updated InDesign to
include many of the features they want most," said Bruce Chizen, executive
vice president of worldwide products and marketing, Adobe Systems
Incorporated. "With the flexible architecture at the core of InDesign we
were able to develop and deliver these features within a span of only six
months."

"Adobe InDesign streamlines our workflow and lets us work smarter," said
Warren Vegas, vice president/production studio manager, McCann-Erickson.
"It's the missing link in a complete publishing solution." According to
Vegas, the new features of InDesign 1.5 amount to "less hassle for the
artists. Now they don't have to do 10 steps, they just have to do two.
InDesign saves time but more importantly, it saves our sanity. When people
have to juggle six or seven jobs a day, InDesign makes life easier."

Key InDesign 1.5 Benefits
Due to the increased integration with other Adobe products, workflows are
improved and transitioning to InDesign is easy. InDesign, working in
conjunction with PressReady and InProduction, dramatically improves PDF
workflows, further extending a user's productivity. Also, Adobe InDesign,
Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator software are a familiar, integrated
set of design tools that share interface elements and core technologies.
This familiarity and common toolset make it easy to add InDesign to any
publishing workflow. InDesign 1.5 now offers tools standard in Adobe
products, such as the eyedropper (for both text and graphics), free
transform, pencil and smooth tools, as well as docking palettes and other
interface elements.

Created for high-end graphic designers, production artists and prepress
professionals, Adobe InDesign removes the creative barriers often found in
other publishing software products by use of a unique, fully extensible,
state-of-the-art software architecture. InDesign 1.5 offers four
significant benefits-further integration with Adobe applications, new tools
for creativity and productivity, and enhanced precision and control.
Key new features found in InDesign 1.5 include:
* Text on a path
* Built-in trapping
* Eyedropper tool
* Printer and PDF export styles
* PDF scripting
* Vertical justification
* Enhanced color controls
* Pencil tool
* Plug-in manager
* Free transform tool
