Smith Micro Introduces New Internet Service
That Offers Mass Market Internet Communication for
Apple(R) Computer Users Everywhere

Aliso Viejo, CA-- January, 2000 -- Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:
SMSI), a developer and marketer of Internet and communications software,
today announced the introduction of the Mac client software for
conexs(TM), its mass market Internet communications service that offers
real-time Internet chat and telephone capabilities.

As an Internet communication service, conexs brings live conversation and
chat to your computer via the Internet, making it a cost-efficient
alternative to traditional telephone services. When the conexs software
application is installed on a Macintosh, users can register with the
conexs.com Internet host server for free to establish a user account.
conexs links Internet users together, enabling everyone to be a part of a
new generation of Internet communication, and making conexs part of a new
wave of Internet communication services for the mass market of Internet Mac
users.

conexs uses your email address as your Internet telephony number and
authenticator. conexs users can create a private ``phone book'' of other
authorized conexs users to contact, much like a ``friends and family plan''
of people who are in their conexs circle.

``We are extremely happy to announce the development of one of the first
advanced H.323 telephony software solutions for Mac users. Internet
telephony has come a long way since its introduction several years ago and
our new Mac version takes a giant leap into the new millennium by
delivering high quality sound for Internet communications,'' said William
W. Smith Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Smith Micro Software.

``Through conexs, Apple computer-based Internet users can make audio calls
anywhere in the world with the convenience and cost-efficiency of the
Internet.''

``This product makes Smith Micro's Internet telephony experience available
to a new audience of Apple Computer users,'' said Rick Wyand, General
Manager - Smith Micro Mac Division. ``In keeping with the Apple experience,
conexs is a new breed of software with an advanced look and feel UI that we
believe Mac users will find easy-to-use and appealing.''

Offers real-time H.323 communication standard via the Internet Links
Internet users together for real-time Internet communication Creates a
cost-efficient alternative to long distance telephone services Provides
worldwide phone Internet communication capabilities Lets users choose a
private circle of friends for their private ``phonebook`` An easy to use
icon-based address book stores your ``favorites'' Placing a real-time call
on conexs is simple and easy. Users simply enter the email address of the
intended party in the call initiator pop-up box, press the call button, and
the call is sent to the conexs.com server where it is processed-much like a
regular phone call. The phone component simulates that of a traditional
phone. When a call is placed, an incoming ring is sounded like a regular
telephone. When the receiving party answers, the two parties are
immediately connected for a live voice conversation. Since the call is made
over the Internet, the call is free, whether it is local or long distance.

conexs also offers a text chat feature to establish live text chat
sessions. Users have the ability to switch from live text chat to a live
voice call effortlessly or use both simultaneously. In addition, conexs
features a ``favorites'' style address book to easily access your favorite
or frequently used connections by simple double clicking on an icon to
place a call.

conexs will be available in the first quarter of 2000 to Mac users through
electronic download at http://www.smithmicro.com and is expected to sell
for $9.95. A free beta version will be available for download by Mac users
later this month. To run conexs, you will need a valid Internet connection,
PowerPC G3/G4 processor, 2MB available RAM, Mac OS 8.6 or later and
QuickTime 3.0 or later. Looking ahead, future offerings of conexs may
include a point-to-point real time video conferencing over the Internet.
