bDistributed.com Contributes Macintosh Support to Ogg Vorbis Project

High-quality Open Source audio compression technology now available to
Macintosh developers

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Illinois - September 11, 2000 - bDistributed.com has
contributed Macintosh support for Ogg Vorbis to Xiphophorous. Macintosh
developers can now use this high-quality audio compression and
decompression library in their software.

Ogg Vorbis is "a completely open, patent-free, professional audio encoding
and streaming technology with all the benefits of Open Source" developed by
Christopher Montgomery of Xiphophorous. It provides quality and compression
similar to the popular MP3 audio compression format. Unlike MP3, however,
Ogg Vorbis is not subject to restrictive patent licenses and royalty
agreements. The Xiphophorous reference implementation of Ogg Vorbis is
available under an Open Source license, and the Ogg Vorbis specification
has been placed in the public domain.

Macintosh support for Ogg Vorbis was developed by Chris Hanson, founder and
President of bDistributed.com. In August 2000, it was made part of the
reference implementation of the Ogg Vorbis library available from
Xiphophorous.
