4D WebSTAR v5.2 With New Mail Server

4D, Inc. Announces 4D WebSTAR v5.2 With New Mail Server

-- High Performance, Easy Mail Server Includes Extra Security Features --

NEW YORK, July 17, 2002 - at Macworld Expo Booth #1342 -- 4D, Inc.,
publishers of the 4th Dimension RAD/RDBMS Environment and 4D WebSTAR Server
Suite, today announced 4D WebSTAR v5.2, a monumental update of the suite of
Internet servers for Mac OS X, now with an easy to use, fast Mail server.
The new 4D WebSTAR v5.2 Mail Server's architecture is designed for
performance and scalability, with new security features, including
anti-SPAM and anti-virus support. 4D WebSTAR v5.2 is currently being
demonstrated in Booth #1342 at Macworld Expo throughout the duration of the
show.

4D, Inc. today also announced an unlimited-mailbox license option is
available for all owners of 4D WebSTAR V who are registered by August 31,
2002. The unlimited-mailbox license option is also available for owners of
4D WebSTAR 4.x who upgrade to 4D WebSTAR V and are registered by October
31, 2002.

"4D WebSTAR 5.2 is an important update, adding to the server suite high
performance email serving with the security features you need today and
intuitive ease-of-use," said Brendan Coveney, president and CEO of 4D, Inc.
"4D WebSTAR v5.2 marks feature parity with 4D WebSTAR 4.x and offers a
dramatic performance advantage to 4D WebSTAR V on Mac OS X. The new Mail
Server in 4D WebSTAR v5.2 is well architected and fast, while secure and
easy to administer, even for delegating administrative authority."

Screaming Fast Mail Server, Easy Admin.
From individual email accounts to group mailing lists, the new Mail server
in 4D WebSTAR v5.2 is built specifically to take advantage of Mac OS X. 4D
WebSTAR v5.2's Mail server is a feature rich SMTP/POP/IMAP server with the
traditional functionality of WebSTAR Mail 4.x, including secure remote
administration, support for multiple domains, advanced relay blocking, and
allow/deny, plus new security-focused enhancements, all in a new,
high-efficiency architecture to keep memory use low and performance high.

4D WebSTAR v5.2's Mail is administered using the familiar 4D WebSTAR V
Admin Client from the 4D WebSTAR V Admin Server. The new mail server system
is comprised of an SMTP Server and a Mailbox server to optimize
performance. The SMTP Server processes allow/deny, filtering, DNSBL and
authentication functions. The Mailbox Server handles POP and IMAP functions
including accounts, archives, group mailing lists and aliases. The
advanced, new architecture in 4D WebSTAR v5.2's Mail server provides
high-speed mail performance and allows tremendous scalability. Both the
SMTP and the Mailbox servers are fully extensible with an API, including
the ability to extend the 4D WebSTAR V Admin interface. For additional
architectural details see
(http://www.webstar.com/developer/mail_server.html).

New Spam-battling Security
Now 4D WebSTAR v5.2's Mail server has anti-SPAM features with new DNSBL
support, which reduces the amount of SPAM sent to and through the system,
and SMTP Authorization which allows administrators the option to require
SMTP clients to submit a password for sending outbound email. 4D WebSTAR
5.2 supports Virex virus filtering, will quarantine messages that may be
infected and notify the postmaster.

Pricing and Availability
4D WebSTAR v5.2 will ship in September, free to users of 4D WebSTAR V,
including an unlimited-mailbox license option for all owners of 4D WebSTAR
V who are registered by August 31, 2002.

The unlimited-mailbox license option is also available for owners of 4D
WebSTAR 4.x who upgrade to 4D WebSTAR V and are registered by October 31,
2002. Upgrades are available at $199 for current registered users of
WebSTAR v4.x, and $299 for current registered users of WebSTAR v3.x.
Cross-grades are available to Mac OS X Server users for $299. Other
cross-grades and academic discounts are available by calling the sales
department at 4D, Inc.
