In larger organizations, administrators may turn to tools specifically designed for enterprise-scale software deployment. Some commercial tools that address this need include the Casper Suite, FileWave, and Absolute Manage.
In MacTech Magazine, we recently wrapped up a four part series on Munki, an open-source utility for enterprise software deployment. Munki is free, flexible and capable, but has a definite learning curve and a fair amount of complexity. It might be too complex for some organizations to consider.
