MacOS X 10.6 brought something new to the scripting arena, something that benefits developers and users alike. AppleScript, that friendly and easy to use script language, has finally gone native. In today's article, we will try to understand what this means. We will learn the benefits of going native, as well as some notable issues. Next, we study how a typical Cocoa class translates itself into a script object. We look at how said object interacts with the Cocoa framework, with scripting additions and with scriptable applications. Later on, we go through the steps of building a native AppleScript application using the latest Xcode suite.
