MacTech Article: Backup101

Backup 101

by Justin Esgar
Nov, 2010 Issue

Article Synopsis

Laptops get stolen. Hard drives crash. There are fires. There are floods. These variables, along with many others, can cause the loss of data. A computer can be replaced, but how can you replace your Quickbooks filings, or pictures of your son at his first baseball game? Data Recovery companies like Kroll Ontrack and Drive Savers are available, but can be very expensive. A single laptop drive can cost over $3000 to recover. Never mind disasters, hard drives, like light bulbs, go bad over time. With this lack of predictability, it's imperative that you are always prepared for a "blackout."
